Oral thrush????

So I have hashmoto's toxicosis.  My tsh has been flip flopping between hypo and hyper constantly for the last 9 months.  I am no longer on meds because my uptake showed my thyroid is taking in too much iodine although my tsh usually shows a hypo number with a few exceptions.  Anyway, I have been deathly ill.  I can't sleep, or sleep too much, my heart races, can't do activities, I'm hot, I'm cold, I have horrible pain, horrible headaches, heartburn, shortness of breath, panic attacks etc etc.  Basically I am barely living.  So last night my cheeks felt kind of sore, but I didn't think much of it and went to bed.  Today it still hurt so I examined it in the mirror and noticed white spots on my tongue.  Apparently I have oral thrush =(.  I am not scared out of my mind because my whole body is just not working.  I have become gluten intolerant in this time (I have not ate gluten) and developed some kind of allergies and now this.  My doc prescribed something over the phone, and I have to see her next week, but has anyone else had this happen from hashi's???  I just had my blood tested again as I have a feeling I have swung back hypo.  I have not received the results yet.  I am so tired =(.  Everyday there is something else wrong with me.  I am meeting with a surgeon on May 10 for a consultation.  I'm scared I can even make it through at this point as I am so ill.  I'm 32 and it seems my whole body if falling apart.  Now if I don't eat my hands shake as well.  I have so much going on that I don't even know where to begin =(.

I have candida and my doctor told me that it takes many months or up to a year to get rid of it. I've been on nystatin pills and dyfulcan. One gets the gut and the other one gets in the blood. On top of that there is a candida diet that cannot be deviated from. Very important. It's very difficult. No antibiotics or steriods!  I"ve been on this for several months. Eventhough I'm still positive for candida, my numbers are so much better. I'm making progress.

My Lyme doctor put me on this.

Best of luck!

I will let you know what happens tomorrow.  They had to squeeze me in so I am only seeing the nurse.  I am not expecting anything great. I guess I do need allergy testing now.  I need like 50 specialists.  My son is doing better.  I caught his cold early and gave him zicam.  He actually got over his cold in like 3 days.  That has never really happened before.  I am thankful for that.  I will PM you, thanks for worrying about me =).

That scares me.  I have been on the nystatin syrup all week and if anything it's a little worse.  I have tried every home remedy as well.  I wish my body would just get better.  I did find out though that splenda causes 50% of your good bacteria to die.  I had been eating a bunch of the lowfat spledna ice cream because it was making me feel better as far as some of my symptoms.  I wonder if this is what brought it on.

I am seeing an endocrinologist, but I don't think I see great ones.  I have not been tested for candida, but I am almost sure I probably have it.  I have everything right now.  The problem is my thyroid is a mess, my parathyroid is odd, my d level is low, my adrenal glands are messed up, I have digestive issues and gluten intolerance now, skin issues, allergies popping up, weird shoulder pain, heart issues, and now candida problems.  Where would my doc even begin with testing??????  Mine never seem to test me for anything other than thyroid related issues (which maybe it is all caused from that).  I don't know.  I'm just a mess.  I'm going to the doc tomorrow.  I've been taking nystatin syrup this whole week and it hasn't done a thing for the thrush.  I have tried garlic, grapefruit seed extract and apple cider vinegar too.  Nothing is working and if anything it's a little worse =(.  I don't even know what to do anymore.

I have a couple questions.

Are you seeing an Endocronologist?

Did you get tested for Candida Albicans? If not, please insist to be tested for it.

Feel better!

I had "oral thrush" for 8 months two years ago. It finally went away. I was put on every antibiotic, mouth wash, you name it, NOTHING helped. After 8 months it finally went away.

Personally I think I developed it after being on an antibiotic for an infected submandibular gland.

Block and replace is tricky. You state many common things associated with low FT3 in the system to get your body functioning up to the speed it needs to in order to feel well completely

you can have the potatoes and fruit once you have consumed the protein and giving it a chance to get in you system.  Eggs and chees are high in protein.  Sugar free peanunt butter. Nuts.  Some are higher than others.  You graze all day with these things, cheese sticks, nuts, etc to keep your protein going and then at a meal you can have some fruit and potatoes, brown rice.
The A1C test would be beneficial too, I just figured since family members have diabetes that they would have a blood testing kit handy and it would be an immediate way to get a baseline.  You will need to test it when you are feeling well, so you will have an idea of what your normal is.  Ask a family member the correct times to test.  Then when you feel the shakes coming on, test and retest during several time and watch to see if you have a drop (or spike). I would do it with several episodes to get a better history to discuss with your doc.
I realize that you have other issues going on too, but maybe, just maybe this would be an answer or hint to your shakes, rapid heartbeat, heat/cool issues. It is an easier fix.       sass

I was wondering when someone would mention block and replace/add back therapy. It is very beneficial once used properly. You should have your endo run an A1C to get a better picture, and rule out diabetes. It's much more reliable than one meter test. I also got thrush right around my official graves(possibly hashi as well) diagnosis. I think it was also due to rinsing with hydrogen peroxide 2 times a day. It killed my good bacteria.

I will have to try the glucose testing the next time it happens.  Just what I need, another illness added on lol.  It seems like my whole body is falling apart.  Nothing in it is working right.  I will try cutting out the potatoes and fruit as you both have suggested.  Since quitting gluten they are the only things I enjoy anymore, so it figures I have to let them go too lol.  I HATE meat.  I was a vegetarian for 15 years.  It seems like the only healthy diet for me is meat though.  Yuck.  It's so hard for me to eat that way.  I always end up starving because I hate meat so much, but I will do what it takes to be health.

I do eat gluten free as I started having an intolerance to it when this started to become severe.  My new doc does ask for the free t3 and free t4's.  I just had testing again Thursday so i will post labs as soon as they come in.

I wonder if I should try the block and replace.  My doc mentioned it, but said it is very difficult to treat that way and that there are some major side effects.  He recommended RAI, but I don't want to go that route, so I thought maybe I should do surgery.  I am scheduled to meet with a surgeon for a consultation on May 10.  I have such little faith in docs tha
It I wonder if they are even good enough to do this method!!!!

I do not eat sugar as it gives me severe reactions, but I do eat rice, potatoes and fruit.  I should probably cut out most of that right now.

I already have the acid reflux and extreme digestive issues.

How much selenium is optimal?

Thank you so much for the input.

If your doctor is looking at only the TSH and determining all your thyroid treatment on that alone, - especially with a flip from hyper to hypo with toxic hyper hormone involved, - you are certainly not going to find relief soon.

True hasitoxicosis must be monitored and treated 2 ways so the patient can heal and it is slow.

Frequent lab tests upon a block and replace method along with suppressing the antibodies seperately should be done with tracking symptoms.

In my case with this situation and in hypos in general - Over 95% of the white coated tongue issues will have nothing to do with thrush but soley involved with a celiac issue, poor digestion and toxic stool. A serious change in diet has to be done immediately, along with adding good quality digestion aids like acidophillus.

The diet basically is no sugar - high protein, low fruit and high green veggies (minus Goitrogen based foods)

This issue if not taken care of right can increase a high potent acid in the gut and can start ulcerative colitis, acid reflux, burning tongue and others similiar. The film is baterical infested and can cause the tongue to crack and bleed.

The right labs to get would be definately the Free T3 and Free T4 labs for thyroid. Usually an optimal person will have a high Free T3 to start to see an elimination of the white coating or cottage cheese look on the tongue. It wouldn't hurt to try and suppress the antibodies by looking into selenium supplements also. You have to stabilze this in order to make the thyroid at least do most of its job to help you feel better in some stability.

No kidding that is the same exact symptoms of my low blood sugar.  My cardiologist caught it.  I had been thru fasting, all kinds of labwork, even in the hospital... never found, then my cardio told me buy or borrow a glucometer and take it when you have the attack, at onset, during and afterm then again an hour after and then 2.  Well low and behold I was at 40 during the attack.  My husband suddenly developed it also, but he was passing out, we even called an ambulance.  By the time they got there he was better, but he kept passing out after he got hot.  I took his the same way and boom.  Him too.  I start shaking so bad, get so hot, go into what I call my feeding frenzy and then I will get cold too, like I am sweating and hot and cold and clamy all at once. My heart races and I sweat. I have even sat at the table in nothing but a bra and panties stuffing my face with cookies and whatever I can get my hands on.  I now carry gluclose tablets that have the right carbs in them and pop 3 i  when I get the beginning symptoms,  I know exactly what it feels like in the first stage and I do NOT hesitate to take them. I eat fully clothed now too.   And now that my hubby does he has not passed out since.  over a year now.  I would pass out only during pregnancy.  Eggs, Cheese and Meat is the correct diet for it.  And a quick  and cheap test is to get some gluclose tablets ( i like the grape and orange) at walmart and pop 3 really quick chew and see if it gets better within 15 minutes.  I was so miserable.  They had even put me on a strong heart medicine.  I would have never found it if I hadn't tested only like he told me to.  Potatoes and fruit are a nono unless eaten after the other proteins are down and digesting.  Potatoes and fruits Turns to sugar. You say sugar makes you ill.  That could be why you get the shakes and palps.  I hope this could be an answer and I hope it helps.  sass

The only medication I take is atenolol at the moment.  My dad and everyone in his family had diabetes and my grandma has it on my moms side so I have always been high risk.  I had my grandma take my blood sugar a month ago and it was okay.  I am wondering though because I have started shaking a lot if I do not eat.  I have never had this problem before.

I started getting really nauseous every time I ate things with gluten.  Stupid me likes vegetarian food and not meat so I ate seitan (pure wheat gluten).  I started getting really sick so I tried cutting it out for a few days and then adding it back it and I was right.  If I have even a crumb of gluten I have HORRIBLE digestive issues for a few days.  Then corn started bothering me.  Corn makes my heart race and again with the digestive issues.  Tomatoes and oranges at times really bother me, but I do sneak those in.  I cannot eat sugar as I get deathly ill and extreme heart palps.  I have never had anything like this before the last 9 months when my thyroid went under attack.  I really live mostly on eggs, meat, potatoes and fruit.  I do eat cheese sometimes, gluten free cereal.  I have a boring diet because I cannot tolerate anything.  I also started having a constant runny nose type of allergy too.  Just recently has been when the shaking has started pretty heavily.  I noticed if I am hungry I get REALLY hot, nauseous and I shake and I HAVE to eat something fast, as I feel so weak and sick.

List the medications you are on also please.
With the hot and cold all the time and the shaking, heart palpataions and fatigue I wonder if you have any problem with your blood sugars.  With your tood intolerances, what are you eating to get by?

Top 5 symptoms:

1. heart problems (racing or palpitations)
2. Breathing issues (I yawn all the time and never feel like I can get a deep breath)
3. Intolerance to heat. I start to get nauseous and shake/ so I tremble a lot
4. Headache, dizziness and ear ringing  (I guess that is 3 but they all tied for 4)
5. Trouble sleeping  needing TOO much sleep.  I alternate between the 2
6. Digestive issues/ terrible Gerd chest pain and heart burn
7. Food Intolerance.  I seem to have a reaction to everything
8. Horrible upper back pain

Okay I listed more, but it was too hard to single the worst ones out.... I have more than this of course but those are the worst.

Can you list your top 5 symptoms?  I also think you are hypo but think you are hyper.  It is only when you start to feel better that you will realize this.

Will look for the latest round of tests........ remember- hashitoxicosis is "transient", meaning that it's only present when you are hyper, so if you are "swinging" back and forth, you don't have it all the time.

Another thing to remember is that symptoms of hyper and hypo can duplicate each other; maybe it would be helpful if you post a list of your more prevalent symptoms; that might help us a bit, too..

Again, will look forward to the latest round of tests, along with reference ranges.

I'll post them Barb.  My doc said I am never really hypo as my uptake showed an increased level of taking up iodine.  I feel hypo at times though.  I'm not sure if I really am hypo so I am just going with the last test result which showed the hashimoto's toxicosis.  Hopefully I should get the latest tests in a few days.  Thanks for the reply!
