Thanks! I go on Wednesday to see my GP and will bring the new info with me. He has listened to me, but this itching thing is almost intolarable.
Once you are diagnosed with Hashimoto's, the doctor should try to get your TSH below 2.0.
Most people have a normal TSH between 0.8 and 1.8. Everyone is diferent, and your body may need a lower TSH. Some people feel best at 0.3, and some people feel best at 3.0. There is no way of knowing what YOU need.
There is a term for your TSH value when you were healthy. It is called a "set point". That is your target, but you don't know what it is. If your TSH deviates 0.75 from your set point, you start to develop symptoms.
So, a TSH of 2.3 may be normal for one person, but too high for another person. Your doctor does not know this. You will not feel better until you are closer to your set point, and that takes time tweeking your meds and trying one dose for three to six months and then trying another dosage if your symptoms persist.
Once you find the magic number, some of the symptoms will go away quickly, and some will hang on for months. This makes it a long and complicated process. You won't know if you are on the right dosage of meds until you take that dosage for a few months.
That doesn't answer DandyDon's question.
Sorry Don.
I haven't had any crazy symptoms, just ALL the regular ones.
I was diagnosed with Hashi's about a year and a half ago. Currently, I have a TSH level of 2.3. My doctor says it is normal. I feel like garbage. I am 35. I have severe itching of my feet and lower calves at night, especially after I take my socks off. I do not have athlete's foot. I am also having intermitent muscle fascultations (twitching) everywhere. Gluts, lats, abs, quads, biceps, hams, where ever...you name it. I can not find the relation. I am extremely tired! I can fall asleep in my parked car waiting for my girls' soccer practice...I can fall asleep now, in fact I just took a cat nap and woke feeling horrible. I am to see my GP this week but this is crazy!!
