TSH is 63.94!

Hello,
I just recently found this forum, and am very thankful it exists!!  I've had thyroid problems for about 6 yrs, and was diagnosed with Hashimoto a year ago.  I was first given Synthroid 6 yrs ago, and it made me feel even worse than just being hypothyroid.  It made me feel really crazy to say the least.  After trying different doses for a year, I switched doctors.  My new doctor switched me to Armour, and I felt much better.  Recently (starting 6-8 months ago) I was feeling very tired, cold, weight gain, usual hypo symtoms.  My TSH was still under 1, where we (my doctor and I) both like it to be.  But I've had a lot of issues going on, and my doctor thought maybe I should see an endocrinologist, so I did.  (My adrenals are not functioning very well, and I'm Celiac and allergic to soy and casein)  So, this endocrinologist switches me to Synthroid and Cytomel.  He said I felt horrible on Synthroid 6 yrs ago, as I wasn't given Cytomel with it.  Well, 6 weeks later...blood work shows my TSH is 63.94!!  (Free T-4 was 0.49 in a 0.77-1.61 range)  That explains why I feel like death, have immense pain in my joints and muscles, and can not stay awake, and have horrible anxiety!  Anyone have any ideas on how my TSH got so high, so fast?  I was taking 100 mcg Levothyroxine and 10 mcg of Cytomel.  The endocrinologist said my TSH was "a little high".  He only increased the Levothyroxine to 137 mcg!! Has anyone else ever had a very high TSH like this?  How long can I expect before my numbers come back down?  I'm so frustrated at this point, and I am self-employed which means I have to work over 50 hrs a week, unless I want to go out of business.  (Which I'm actually considering at this point, since I've been told I'm at high risk for Addison's disease.)  Sorry to be rambling on and on here...I just don't know what to do anymore!

I took Synthroid 100 mcg. I was out of my medicine during my vacation. I took every 2 days for two weeks. When I came back home, I went to see my Endocrinologist, I found my TSH was 63.5. It scared me because my TSH never so high, it's only two weeks, and It's been 6 months. I haven't follow up until yesterday. I am waiting for result.

Oops, I cut myself off:

My previous blood work for 1-23-08 was this:

thyroglobulin antibodies: 96 H (ref. range 1000 H (ref. range <35)

tsh 0.01 (he lowered my armour dose from 3.5 grain, to 3 grain after these results)

Thank you so much for your help!  I haven't heard of bowel tolerance 1500-3000 Vitamin C before.  Is that just a very high dose of Vitamin C?  What should I look for?  Thanks again!

Thank you for comments everyone!  This endo just has a thing against Armour, so I won't be going back to him.  Even with solid proof that Armour is tested so vigorously before it's made into tablets, and after, he thinks it's not "reliable".  I stopped taking the Levothyroxine and Cytomel, and am switching back to my Armour.  I still had quite a bit left in different doses, so I started with 1 grain today.  I can't get in with my regular doctor until next week, so I think 1 grain is a safe place to start.  (I was on 3 grains previously, before seeing this endo.  Do you think I should take more?  I'm just nervous to take too much, too quick)  On the other hand, I can't handle the effects of feeling this way much longer either!

As for the adrenals...I had a major surgery two years ago (mastectomy and reconstruction)  and I didn't take enough time off to recover.  I think between that, and my body stressing over food allergies, being self-employed and working 50 hrs/week, the adrenals kinda burnt out.  I was taking an over the counter adrenal support pill: https://secure.endfatigue.com/store/products/supplements/end-fatigue-adrenal/ that my regular doctor said was a good supplement.

Here are the results of my ACTH stimulation test I had done on 4-21-08.  (I had been off of the supplements for 6 weeks for this test)
8:35am Cortisol 24.3
9:05am Cortisol 31.9
9:35am Cortisol 39.5
ACTH 7 (ref. range 6-48)
The endo told me that my adrenals were "beautiful".  I took the same blood work results to my gyno just for a second opinion, as I was seeing him anyways.  He told me that my adrenals are functioning, but barely.  He said that it should have raised at least 20 points or more for fully functioning adrenals.  Anything less than 20, and he said I'm on the road to Addison's.  He also said that even though I wasn't taking the supplements for 6 weeks prior to the test, that they were still in my system a bit.  The gyno thinks if I had been off of them longer...the numbers would reflect that and be lower.
Anyone have any input on my labs?  I'm so confused, any help would be great!  (the brain fog I have isn't helping things!)

My previous blood work for 1-23-08 was this:
thyroglobulin antibodies 96 (ref. range 1000 (ref range <35)
tsh 0.01 (he lowered my armour dose from 3.5 grain, to 3 grain after these results)

The doctor just ran the antibodies wondering if they'd come down since last year.  But they haven't, they were the exact same as last year.

Thanks again!  I can't wait to start feeling better!

You radrenals will knock out your thyroid meds working if they are shot. Your endo needs to reopen his medical books and get your adrenals back into balance. I also believe your body was used to the Armour with the natural T3 and now you are on Synthroid /Cytomel it will need time to convert to that. I don't see the need to put your body through another change. Go back to Armour and get on some HC for adrenal support - you should return back to feeling better.

To support your adrenals - get on bowel tolerance 1500-3000Vit C that should help until you get treated for adrenal distress. If you don't get that together Addison's may be next.

I have no idea why your TSH shot up that high in six weeks.

Tell the Endo to switch you back to your old meds, and get your adrenals straightened out.

A "little high"???

Maybe you ought to try another Endo.

I'm new to this board too, so I don't have a lot of help to offer.  I just wanted to say DANG your TSH is high.  I'll bet you are terribly, terribly exhausted.  Wow, I cannot imagine.  Please keep us posted!
