WHEN DOES IT END?

Will having Hashimotos, make you feel lousy evan after taking synthroid? I guess what I mean is, when having this, will a person always have spells of feeling lousy forever, or will it ever get to where a person would go back to feeling normal. Seem`s like every couple of weeks, I have to go through this spell of feeling bad, and would appreciate some thought on what to expect for the rest of my life.

Let me just add too.. I was in the Gulf war in the desert in 115 plus degrees, onder pressure all the time,,and could handle every bit of it,,but my Vitamin D is said to be low,, go figure after being in the sun all that time..i was very active, almost a hyper person I was told, most guys would tell me to ease up slow down  Well I did now to the point of no mobility, after being back on these meds,,I hated taking medication, I have taken more medication over the last year and seen more doctors then I had in my whole life time...Im so confused on this,,I wish I could stop the meds long enough to find out if I would feel better..

Only once did i have my self tested after my TT, which was 10 years after,,and did not get the results till last year when my Primary Doctor looked back in his records, I was in the military, and moved around alot, so I did not care to stay around to find out,,I was feeling fine, did not think about it,,So I asked him a bit back so what was my level back then ,,He told me it was 300 TSH,, well He then said how did you funtion? I replyed, I just did not think about it..But after another ten years they say age caught up with me, and your fatigue is a sure sign thing were going to change, so they tested me again and found it at 116, now the test might have changed over all those years,, and believe me there is no active Thyroid in me,,the doctor was amaze and told me that the hormone was coming from some where but not my thyroid,,,something was making T3 to make me survive,,,and I was cool with that,, then the doctor said you need to be back on those meds,,so I have, and its gone down hill ever since three days back on it, my body just went into shock,,,I had adjusted to my lifestyle, but now Im living a Synthedic life.

I am confused. How can you produce enough hormones with no thyroid and no meds. Did you have your labs checked within the 20 years off meds?

Well -- not AR - but I think he will agree. Yes get the adrenal checked - It really doesn't matter if a TT or not - if you are hypo for a long time your adrenals are working harder. If they get tired everything falls out of whack.

You guys on here are great.  You and AR-10.  Funny conversation.  I have felt bad just aslong if not longer than Stella so I'm thinking she and I both should get off on good behavior!!

AR-10....should you get an adrenal test done after a thyroidectomy?   Something is just not going right for me.  I wouldn't think a person could hurt so bad and feel so bad day in and day out for so long without it getting some better in over 2 months!!

No, not you Stella.

You're going to Hawaii in January, remember?  :-)
You'll be cured by the time you drink your second Mai Tai!

Have you been constantly out of balance for six years?
We could give you three years off for good behavior...

I'm saying what you already know. You're not going to be 100% two months after you get stable. You Adrenal glands have to recover, if they can. Your digestive system has to return to normal. Your body needs time to throw out the damaged stuff and regrow better stuff. It takes time. The more damage, the more time.

I think it is different for each person.

My own feeling on Hashimoto's is that it impacts you for life.

To what degree depends on variables like the form of Hashimoto's, the quantity and variety of antibodies, the presence or absence of a gland, the quality of medical care, and lifestyle.

It would be nice to see people dropping by every so often to say they've been living with Hashimoto's for twenty years and forget they even have it. They're probably out there, living normal lives, not thinking about it. They have no reason to come here and discuss it, unfortunately.

My PCP has told me over and over that if one goes untreated for X number of months, then it will take one's body about the same number of months for the body to heal AFTER hormone levels are brought into range and stabilized.

He is telling me it will take a year or two for my body to heal. He seems to be right about most things, too.

I guess it depends on your personal situation. How long and if. How bad your antibodies are. How bad your thyroid is. How good your doctor is. How long you can stay fairly stable. How long it takes your adrenal glands to recover.

My sister has Hashimoto's and doesn't even know what it is or that she has it. She just knows she has to take thyroid meds every day. She's lived with it for twenty years, but she has Celiac Sprue, so she wouldn't know one symptom from the next. Her health has always been up and down.

There are people living all around us that have Hashimoto's, and we never know it. Are they healthy? Beats me. If I knew who they were, I'd be asking them.

With all the variables it really is an individual thing, and each person's experience will be a little different. I hope your bad days become fewer and one day you will stop and realize you haven't had a bad day in months.
