What are the chances I have cancer with this information?

I'm 28 years old. I've always been small until about 2 years ago then rapidly put on the weight(almost double). I thought I was just lazy, because I had no energy.  I started getting bad migraines and flashes of bright light and having seizures. I went to the doctor and they put me on ALOT of medicines. My migraines are under control. During a car accident last year they found a nodule on my lower left thyroid. My blood work came back normal, as did my urine. I kept telling them something was wrong and started asking for the tests my self. The 1st FNA was inconclusive (the Dr said it was difficult to get to). It's size was 2.5x2.0x2.3cm, solid with some cystic areas within, and had massive blood flow (hypervascular). I waited they did nothing else so I asked for a thyroid uptake. I did that on Mon June 16-17. The results from that I understand say it is a cold nodule suspected within the inferior left lobe measuring 2-2.5cm. Slight asymmetrical enlargement of left lobe as well as the presence of an area of photopenia within the inferior pole. I then asked for another FNA to be done at this same hospital, they scheduled it for June 18, the doctors reports describe the procedure as tolerated very well by patient with no complications. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of a 2.6x1.8cm heterogeneous solid hypervascular cold nodule in lower pole of the left thyroid gland. I'm waiting on the pathology reports, could this have something to do with my migraines and seizures, or other symptoms? What could this be? Is it likely to be cancer? If so what type? I'm going to lose my insurance next month so if there is a good chance it is cancer I will spend the lots of money to fight to keep it. I don't know what to do?

Hi there,
I was just wondering if you were tested for graves disease. They would find that through a Thyroid scan. Usually your TSH numbers would be for indicitave of something going on, but all your symptoms sounds like what I had. I had Graves Disease and was absolutley miserable. I hope the Doctors are able to help you. Good luck and keep us posted

I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a tough time.  Be sure to get lots of rest so the pneumonia clears up.  That can certainly tax your energy levels.  Your BP is not all that low, but what's important is that you are symptomatic.  It's possible the dizziness is from a change in your BP, but it could also be coincidental.  There were times my BP was in the low 90's/50's and the cardiologist said as long as I felt OK, she was fine with that.  In fact, she said her tends to run similarly low.

I'm not familiar with a D-Dimer screen, sorry.  It appears that you could have DVT and/or PE, but the test seems inconclusive.  Do they plan to follow up with additional tests to rule out these disorders?  Are you taking an anti-coagulant?  There is a doctor on one of the Heart Forums who answers questions about PAD (Dr. Kirksey); he might be able to help on the D-Dimer Screening test.

Are you seeing an endocronologist for the thyroid issues?  I'm not a doctor, but your symptoms seem pervasive and I think I'd keep pursuing a cause.  What do the doctors attribute the weight gain to?  Some of the symptoms you describe can also be attributed to anxiety and/or depression....Has that been metioned as a possible cause?  What types of medication are you taking?  Are they adding to your symptoms?

Sorry, looks like I have more questions than answers : (
I'd still check with Dr. Kirksey (when you can get a question into the forum) on the D-Dimer Screening results.

Sorry I just got out of the hospital, now I have pneumonia. My blood pressure is extremely low. It is usually on the low side, but every night I woke up it was under 100/58. I'm so dizzy and they never answered my questions about that! They did a MRI everything looked ok to the tech. EEG looked ok. Blood work questions TSH 0.39, Thyroxine 5.3, Bun 8, Lymphocytes 6, Neutrophils 84, WBC 17.9.
D-Dimer Screen POSITIVE (b) H
Notes: (b) D-Dimer Screening Assay
Elevated levels of D-Dimer are an indication of active fibronolysis and have been found in patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE). A POSITIVE result is obtained with this assay when D-Dimer levels are greater than 80ng/mL. This assay has a reported sensitivity of 89% for the diagnosis of DVT with a negative predictive value of 95%.

I've been in and out of the emergency room since the FNA due to an infection in my tonsils. 1st it was Laryngitus, now it is Tonsilitus. I feel like I have been hit by a bus 10x. Do you gain excessive weight, energy loss, hair loss, joint pain, migraines, heavy menstral cycles, MOODINESS, fainting/seizures?  I'm normally a very healthy and considerably fit person, the extent of my illnesses is pneumonia 2x in my life and strep throat every 3 years like clockwork. I don't catch common colds or flu even. Since March of this year my body is falling apart. I was put on LOTS of medicine (I never take any), I've started having migraines with seizures, excrutiating generalized body pain, and laziness or lack of energy, and major weight gain since November of last year. I was a size 8-10 mid Nov and a 20 in Mar. Would it be a good idea to go ahead and remove this lesion, and will I ever go back to normal?

Reduced uptake may indicate hypothyroidism as a possible result of some autoimmune process such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis;
You may ask for blood test for TPO AB and TG AB.[they may be present even with normal blood thest results]

I got the results back today of the FNA, negative for malignancy. What does this mean now? How accurate is that, and does it make sense with the doctor reports and other test results? Thyroid uptake revealed 12% which is lower limits of normal. (normal 24 hour uptake 10-33%)

Based on the description of nodule it has 30 % chance of being malignant, according to the medical articles.
If the nodule was stable in size over one year and pathology result would be benign, it still can be monitored for some time followed by boipsy and ultrasound. In case it will start to grow in the size or the pathology will be suspicios, removal of the nodule may be necessary.
