Medic-  I have been taking the papaya enzymes lately!  They do help a bit.  Nothing seems to help but dairy products oddly enough.  I started eating a bowl of low fat ice cream and it has really helped more than anything.  My calcium was 10, while my pth was 55 so close to Sassy's.  I think the calcium of 10.8 though is definitely enough to get diagnosed.

Was this the value when your calcium was 10.0? If so, it was too high. Your PTH should have been much lower -around the bottom 20% or less. All the Parathyroids do is release PTH to elevate blood calcium levels. If your calcium level is maxed out, the PTH should have throttled way back (like almost non-existent.) The PTH rapidly responds to changes -like in hours or less. When I woke up from surgery after I had my parathyroid tumor removed, I could already feel the calcium level dropping. It was amazing a week later when I realized how cr@ppy I'd been feeling compared to how much better I felt. ~MM

Oh man, did you two give me a flashback of pre-surgical days of HPT. My heartburn was intractable. -I tried everything. Propped up pillows, medicine, etc. one of the things that would help briefly was papaya enzyme tablets. -It breaks down the stomach acid a bit. The reason hypercalcemic patients get heartburn, is because the cardiac sphincter -the muscle that pinches off at the bottom of the esophagus so food doesn't come back up -is slow to close because of the way too much calcium affects smooth muscle. It is the same reason your gut is slow and often painful. Some people can use apple cider vinegar to get it to close and stop letting stomach acid splash back up -I can't say I had much luck with that.
Sass, you say your PTH is in normal range -which end of the spectrum? If it is high-normal and your calcium is high, that is enough to diagnose you with HPT.
-I had to do a Mexican stand-off in my Dr office when she "didn't think I needed" a PTH test although I'd had 6 kidney stones and had calcium levels at 10.5-11.2. It was almost a relief when it came back 3X higher than normal. That is the weird thing about HPT though. You don't have to have critical lab values to be super sick from it. ...~MM

Sass- Email Dr. Norman and see what he says.  Even one high calcium reading like you had might be enough for him to tell you how likely it is you have hypepara.  I wrote him and emailed me a couple days later. 10 is still not good, especially in people over 30. I drink Natural calm which is magnesium and it does help muscle pain.  I have noticed that I have been craving calcium a lot and I feel better when I get it.  I wonder if this is because my D is so low, my calcium is kind of high and my pth was kind of high.  Maybe my body needs it?  Do you have heartburn?  I have HORRIBLE HORRIBLE gerd since my calcium went high.  Eating calcium foods has helped me, even though I don't know if this is good or not.  I hope you start to feel better!

I also have been battling terribly with bone and joint pain. I am walking like a very old woman. I do have low vit D also. My endo said I was hyper and decreased my meds but I never felt hyper and now that my levo has been lowered I am getting worse with the body pains. My hips , knees and feet are killing me. I am sorry you are hurting too. Hope you feel better soon!

I have been advised to avoid taking calcium supplements as I had excessively boney growths in my mouth.  The bone began to grow on the boney ridges and started coming out thru the lower inside gums by the tounge area,  Sharp as razor blades and slicing my tounge. Very uncomfortable.  I was told to never take boniva or products simiular to it, although I had a bone scan 10 years ago that showed osteoporsis.  My body is rebelling against me.  I just need an answer soon!     I am sure that they are not going to consider the parathyroid to be a problem because the calcium was just 10 this time, not over the normal limit.  I guess I am more afraid of getting normal results than finding out something is wrong.  I do not WANT a problem but I know I have one.  I Want results.  I want to just have less pain.       sass

I just remembered...You are hypercalcemic and hyperparathyroid aren't you? If so, as your calcium levels/PTH rise and your dietary intake is unable to keep up with the demand, the calcium is painfully ripped from your bones. I do not recall anything that relieved that pain other than getting the @#*#@ parathyroid tumor out....Sorry...You can still try the stuff I posted. Taking additional calcium is a dicey thing when you have HPT. If you take too much (more than your body needs to maintain the bone calcium) the PTH will grab onto it and your levels could rise more.If ytou take just enough, then some of that pain should diminish. You should consult your endo about the amount -I don't know if there is a formula for figuring out calcium loss that corresponds to PTH levels...I hope you are able to get your matter fixed soon! I feel for you! ~MM

I find a combination of Tylenol (1000 mg), 2 grams of calcium citrate with magnesium, a potassium (99 mg), a warm shower, and an 8 ounce glass of tonic water (feel free to add gin!) does wonders for the desperate nights.
It is when my calcium or potassium are low (usually pre-empted by low vitamin D) and then they hypothyroid hits is when I have body and joint pain like you describe. ~MM

I had the run over by a truck feel. But the train pulling iron ore was was worse.

A tennis ball, one of those fitness roller things and the floor can do wonders. And its free. Plus magnesium.

Haha, yeah, massages can be difficult to obtain at all hours!!  Oh, I could just imagine you getting a massage from the dog...those toenails are awfully sharp and scratchy!!  But, when it works out and you can get a massage...it works wonderfully!! : )

Hopefully the hurting doesn't last too long...and darn that truck driver!

F-  somebody needs to get him and take away his truck!!!  Or hold him down so i can run him down!! This is a fine way to spend a lovely evening at home!  Can't wait for my trip.  It should be even better.  Put out an APB on that truckdriver!

N-  I will wait on you to get here and give me that massage.  Oh that would be heavenly, but no massage open at 11:15 pm here in The States!  lol  Great Suggestion Tho!
Hubby asleep and he is disabled in both hands so no help there! Otherwise it would be left up to the dog and she never is good at it!!  toenails!
