Congratulations dear on your 17 days!!! That's AMAZING and the fact that your boyfriend has quit as well is great. I do think that it's important for you to go to NA, for both of you, and consider getting sponsors, that you can call if and when the urge to use happens. I will be praying for you both. TRUE LONG TERM HAPPINESS IS AROUND THE CORNER.
Hi,
I am happy for you that you are clean. Way to go. The reason that therapy, meetings or some form of aftercare is recommended is for the mental part of this disease. Please don't fool yourself into thinking it will not sneak up on you because it will. Using drugs is the end result of what is going on with you. You began to use to hide something--feelings, emotions, events, etc. Regular people (whoever they are) don't get up in the morning snort a bag of H and go about their day. Addicts do. And because you put the drugs down doesn't mean the problems have gone away. This disease is patient and sneaky.
What would it hurt to give therapy a try? There is nothing to fear there and can be a rewarding experience. You will learn about yourself, what makes you tick and what triggers you. You can learn life coping skills and hopefully learn relapse prevention. I hope you decide to give it a go. Best of luck.
In my last post I also mentioned that I'm a binge-eater, but it seems that when I'm not high, I don't binge at all (it sounds weird to picture someone doing heroin and then eating a crapload of food, but thats what I did). As long as I have a clear head, my urge to binge is much weaker.
