Am I ready for this?

Hello!!! I am new to this forum, but I have been reading others' posts for a while.  I have been taking anywhere from 3-10 5 mg. Vicodin a day for approx. 3 years.  Before that, I quit Percocet 10 mg. 10/day plus Morphine successfully.  But I have severe back pain plus migraines and fibromyalgia, so need some sort of pain control.  I have been on every kind of medication out there, with little or no success.  Narcotics just work for me and my pain.  So I know I am addicted at this point, and I really want to stop, but I'm also really scared.  The worst part is the fatigue and knowing that I HAVE to go to work every day, taking days off is not an option for me.  So I guess I'm just looking for some ideas for pain control and some support and positive reinforcement!

Unfortunately, a pain management doctor is who got me into this mess in the first place! I trusted him with my health, and he drugged me up so much that I eventually lost my job and my apartment and had to move in with a family member.  I had never taken narcotics before then, and he over-medicated me and basically gave me waaayyy too much medication for my symptoms, I realize now.  I guess I'm just looking for a way to quit this lifestyle of running out of pills early, planning every day around when I can take more pills, no energy unless I have my pills, etc.  I'm just so scared of withdrawals!!!

Hi~  It sounds like you need to see a pain management doctor. There are many who specialize in this particular area. Maybe you could ask your doctor to recommend
someone. Also, there is a pain management forum on MedHelp. Click on "forums" and it will bring to the forum list.

Good luck~
