Barely able to function

I am on day 13 of norco detox and today is really bad.  I have ZERO energy.  The kind that is crippling and making it very, VERY hard to stay at the office.  I am also very "achy" but I am wondering if I might have made an error in taking Ambien for the last 2 nights.  My doctor told me to take 2 Hydrozyzine 50mg and 1 Ambien 5mg at bedtime.  He told me I would sleep like a baby and this would help me get the rest during my drug withdrawals.  Yes... He knows everything now and is doing his best to help.  The 1st night I took them I slept the entire 8 hours uninterrupted, but last night was much different.  I tossed and turned all night and was running another marathon under the sheets. (RLS)
What am I doing wrong?   Why the "noodle legs" today?  I thought I was past this point, but is it the medication?  Struggling here.......

Hey there!!!! Sorry I know I've been quiet. But I agree with a lot of what has been said. I thought the second week I was going to be running laps!!! NOT!!  Felt so so sluggish and I do believe yes those meds will give u the groggy hang over effect. So be careful with that. But I do know how precious the sleep factor is. If we don't get it we go crazy!!! Now the important thing I'm learning is taking things for energy... Not too much because it causes anxiety. Everyone has their own idea for protein. I'm getting back to my fitness roots ...  I start off eating egg whites and small side of fruit... Later a snack. My lunch is the EAS carb control shakes. Gives protein but zero sugar... I take a multivitamin for women but men can take this same pill. It's the One a day womens active metabolism ... It says adult dose 1 pill. My Hubby takes them with me. It does have caffeine in it so it's enough to get my jolt going in the morning!!! If I really feel sluggish I take the amino acid L tyrosine. Let's put it this way. I was barely moving week 2. Now I'm doing my powerwalks for over an hour everyday. I feel good. Listening to music helps kick it up a notch!!!  Hang in there ok. Btw all the stuff I listed I get at target or walmart. Big hugs congrats on being sober!!! Great great job!!!! High 5 !!!

I'm sorry you are still having problems. It goes to show what the drugs actually do to our minds and bodies. It's scary.

I do know that you will get through this. It is the weekend so hopefully you can get some rest and have a better outlook on Monday. I know it is hard but a positive outlook goes a long way. Try not to focus on the bad stuff but on what is ahead and how far you have come. Pat yourself on the back and keep up the good work!!

Oh sweetie... This just is the worst.  I landed in my doc's office on day 21 feeling just as you describe.  The no sleep was just leaving me in a wicked mood and filled with anxiety.  I did go on Ambien which works for me but I'm using it only when I can't do anything else.  Everyone is different.  The showers are good.  This too shall pass.  We all promise.        Not sleeping is really the worst.  Now I don't know anything about sleeping aids but two people have private messaged me that Ambien messed them up however Lunesta worked beautifully.  With no side effects.  I can't verify that.  Praying for rest for you.

Thanks again.   I made it through yesterday.  The protein shakes really helped give me a bit more energy, but the body ache continued.  I called my doctor and told them about the body aches and slight lighthededness but the nurse said it was not the Ambien. I was actually surprised they did not take into consideration what I was saying.  They actually told me to continue on the Abmien and hydroxyzine!   I said.... ABSOLUTELY NOT.   I read countless stories about the Ambien, aches and pains, dizzyness etc but the nurse said "well...everything says that".  I was nice though and said....."I am not feeling well after taking the drugs.....I am not sleeping....so I am NOT going to continue".   So....I was in the shower 5 times last night due to the restlessness and extreme anxiety.  It seems like I should be far past that?     I finally gave up at around 2am and took a couple of Xanax (lowest dosage) and managed to get a couple of hours. But then I feel groggy when I wake up.  Arghhhhhhhhh!   It's a no win situation right now and you might be able to tell my frustration.  15 days of little to no sleep pushes my mental status overboard.  It really has me in a BAD situation.  My mood, my outlook on life, my ability to work, short temper, unable to sleep, anxiety.    I thought this would have passed by now?  Hmmm

The L-ty made me restless. Go figure. I wanted to get "normal" as fast as I could, so I was taking everything that I read about related to healing after detox. Some worked, some didn't, and some really made things worse. Careful of the Amino Acid protocol.  I was duplicating and getting jacked up.
Sometimes just riding out the storm is the best approach.

Hi hydro! Yup, I'm right there with you! There are ups and downs at this stage! I am in nearly your same place! Somedays, it feels like day 4 all over again! The good news is that it doesn't last as long! The good is better than the bad! Does that make sense? I need more coffee right now! I'm hoping the good days get more and more & bad days get less & less! Just fight through it! I have never stopped taking all the vitamins & supplements and yes protein shakes help wonders! Sleep is still an issue! I usually get around 2 hours at a time!

that is exactly what my doctor told me & idk why it turned a light bulb in my head.  Ever since she told me i don't need pills to sleep, I have been sleeping fine, without all the worrying about whether or not i will sleep.  Crazy.
@ Minn, MENTAL-PAUSE!!!!  LOL

Thanks IBKleen.  I will stop with the Ambien as it only worked one time for me.  Last night was bad (with the Ambien) so I agree with you about not adding things to my body.   I have NEVER had sleep issues my entire life so this is tough.  I always slept 8 to 9 hours every night even before opiates. 5 would not cut it for me, but at this point it would be better than what I have been getting.  Thanks and I will stop the Ambien.  I also let me Dr. know how I feel today and that I did not sleep.  I feel I should also inform him so it might help the next narcotic person he encounters.  Thanks again!

Lol, "mentalpause!" Anyway, I only get about 6 hours of sleep now and it is plenty. My mother has always only gotten 5 to 6 hours as well and she's in her seventies and very active.

You are where you are supposed to be. As you see, everyone detoxes differently. Your body is reacting to your and your brain chemistry. Ambien is a killer for me and I haven't touched it in years. It gives me RLS and make me cook strange things in the middle of the night but that is not the point. It DOES alter your brain chemistry so you are adding to the confusion by taking it. And the worst thing you can do is lay in bed and toss and turn. If you can't sleep then get up. Shower, walk, read, watch tv..whatever it takes to make you tired. And if you don;t sleep don;t get yourself all riled up about it. It will come. The "I need 8 hours" thing is a myth. Most people don't get that and don't need it. I haven't known 8 hours of continuous sleep since mental-pause and I manage to function during the day.

Give yourself a break kiddo and give it time. Try not to get discouraged or stressed. You are done the right thing by quitting and you know that. Please don't use this as an excuse to take a pill.

Okay akitagurl12.  LOL     I will skip the Ambien.  He only gave me 5 anyway.
I just got back from GNC with some Amplified WheyBolic Extreme 60. Guy said it was the Amino Acid and some additional muscle recovery formulation.  Hopefully this is what you all meant by Amino Acid Protein Shakes?   Took the recommended dosage about an hour ago and I feel more awake.  Not sure why that is though?

LOL, oh no, when i said i was doing other things, i didn't mean THAT.  I meant I was sleepwalking and sending random emails to people through facebook that made no sense and eatting boxes of cinnamon toast crunch cereal! Not only did I hate the extra anxiety the next morning, I also hated discovering all the food all over the floor & embarassing emails I sent! LOL  Ambien affecting me weird.

Thanks akitagurl12.  I "wish" I had done some things other than sleep.  LOL
I am inclined to believe it's the Ambien causing the anxiety and muscle aches as well.  I just did a search and these appear to be common side effects.  Now I see why so many say "There is no miracle cure" for our WD's.

like selfinduced mentioned, I got alot of rebound anxiety the next morning after I took ambien. Apparently I did other things besides sleep on it too. lol  Personally, for me, the energy part didn't get back to normal until 3 solid weeks of being off painkillers, but it should be better so I am inclined to think alot of it has to do with the ambien. Hang in there you are doing great, I just wish you felt great today but you will in time, I promise.

I wish I could crank the music. Cant at the office though.  I am taking a quick 15 min break and running across the street to GNC to get some protein shakes.  Hope that helps.

Some people do get rebound anxiety from ambien. Have you taken it before when not detoxing to see how you react? I was pounding muscle milk and EAS shakes. Both are sold at the reg. grocery store in the health food section. Very high protein and I drink the (lite), to lower calories and sugar.Stay away from caffeine right now. I swear, the more I moved the less my anxiety was. Turn some music on and get up from your desk and DANCE!

no gatorade, vitamin water or amino acid protein shakes.  Just some L-tyrosine, vitamin C and B6.

Thanks Selfinduced.  I have heard of the amino acid protein shakes, but where can I get those?   The anxiety is REALLY high today.  Might be from the other meds.   The hydroxyzyine is used to calm people down before surgery.  It works like Xanax but is not addictive.   It can also be used during the day for Anxiety.  I really dont want to keep adding these meds to my body though.
