Clonidine and Clonazepam, tried it?

I'm 23 years old. For the last 5 years I have been depending on at least 200mg of Oxys or Morphine (Ms-cotin) per day. I have tried at least 20 times to quit but the physical and mental withdrawal is the most excruciating feeling I have ever experienced. Why would you allow youself to suffer horribly for 10-21 days when you can just go out and buy a little pill to make it better?

I found out recently that it doesnt have to be as painful as most treatment/detox centers make it. The first time I went to detox, they put me in a locked room with nothing but books and games. And they watched me suffer through a big paine of glass to make sure I didnt try to kill myself. But i would have if I hadnt left there after a day and a half. Thats how long it took to become unbareable.

That was two years ago. A week ago I decided that I wanted some control back in my life.  So I decided to quit. I took my last dose at 7pm and by 9am the next morning I was so so sick. My work sent me to the emergency room where someone finally listened to me. The doctor gave me a prescription of Clonidine (0.2mg a day) and Clonazepam (1mg perday), which at least took away the physical withdrawal by 80%. And everyday since then (5days) the withdrawal just disappears.

I guess my point is, that there is something to help through the physical pain and I hope people that were in my position can get that kind of help. It doesnt help with the urges, the temptation, the need, but it makes it easier. It doesnt help with sadness and depression, but it doesn make it all a little easier than trying to make it on your own .

i hope that i make it through and good luck to anyone else.

Congrats on Day 5 and thanks for sharing.  When I quit my nasty habit, I didn't know what was available to help so it would've been nice to have done a little research and find these things out.
You probably know that the Clonidine is a blood pressure medicine, and I've heard it really helps with the withdrawal symptoms.  The Klonopin is a benzo and it helps too.  Just be careful; you don't want to stay on the Klonopin too long.  Withdrawals from benzos are some of the worst withdrawals around, and when you do stop you have to taper from them.  Abruptly stopping could bring on a seizure.  When I first started having panic attacks, the doctor put me on Klonopin (Clonazepam).  I took them on a regular basis and when I ran out, I thought nothing of it.  Until five days later when I was sick as a dog and thinking I was going to have a heart attack.  So when I started to quit them for good, I tapered, breaking the tabs in half, then in fourths, then 8ths until I was down to crumbs.
Anyway, I'm rambling.  Thank you again for sharing, and again congratulations on your progress.  I love to hear those that get past day 3; that seems to be the first major hurdle.
Good luck to you,
Yoda (Linda)
