HELP.. how to taper off hydrocodone

Hello to all of you. First off reading your posts has helped me so much.. I know that I'm not alone and all of your posts and knowledge help me remember that I will make it through. I'm 20 years old and have been abusing hydrocodone the last 10 months. I was taking only about 3-4 a day ranging from 4 to 9 hours when the pills almost ran out.. now I only have a few left. 2 days ago I had 3 pills, then yesterday I only had 1 and I'm already feeling the withdrawals. Today I've only had 1 as well and the withdrawals have gotten worse... but not unbearable by any means. However, I'm afraid of what the next few days will bring. I only have about 7 pills left... any suggestions on how I should taper?

Sorry I left out the fact that a new batch is coming in this Wednesday so I now have enough pills to take 2 a day until then. Should I cut them in half and have 4 halves a day or should I just take one in the AM and one in the PM? Once the pills come on Weds. I'm going to continue with 2 a day for a few more days and then go down 1.5 to 1 to .5 until I'm completely off. Do you think I will still experience horrible W/Ds? And trust me I'm done with these pills... once I'm off I'm done for good. I can't wait to have my life back and experience what life has to offer me without pills. I just want this to all be over with. Thank you for all of your responses.

Hi...

Cut your pills in half and determine how long you can go without a pill during the day...2 hours, 3, 4, 5?  Then set a schedule to match the 14 half pills increasing the time between dosages until you're done and can stop completely.  I agree with above, 7 (14 halfs) isn't alot to taper with but you do what you have to do.

Good Luck,

Guy

Hello and congratulations on your decision to get yourself clean. You have been on a low dose so that is good. I'm not sure how many pills you have left but since you are on 1 I would break it in half and take half in AM and half in PM then drop to just half. You are going to feel some withdrawal anyway so if I were you I would just go ct and get it over with.
Since you have only been on them for 10 months please please take this advise. Do whatever it takes to stop this addiction now. You will have mental wd as well but at 10 months it will not be as long as most of us who have used for years and need 6 months to a year to get close to normal again. 20 years old can turn into 50 in the blink of an eye when you are actively addicted. Your life will travel on 1 of 2 roads...using or not using. It will make so much difference which road you chose....It will be a different life all together. Getting and staying clean will be difficult but take it from someone looking back. It was so much easier to detox 7 years ago. It gets harder everytime and the mental part gets harder as well. I wish you luck on your recovery. Post on here often. You will get tons of support and good information. It is very slow on weekends. Corey

You might not have enough for a sensible (successful) taper. If you can get a few weeks' worth, you'll have more room to taper down a bit before calling it quits.

I find that having a stock of Valium or something similar for the first week is very helpful. But some melatonin for sleep in any case.

Looks like you're going too fast, but if you can make it on what you've got, of course that's the way to go.

Good Luck.
