What does the bar of soap do ?

I tried the bar of soap in the bed. I rubbed it a little on the arms and left leg and made sure it was touching my leg when I went to sleep. It helped a little at first, then after 3 days it gave a lot of relief. I made sure it was about half way in the bed when I made it. I used dial gold but I think you can use any brand. I am extremely  skeptical about off the wall suggestions, however, desperate times called for desperate measures. Haahaahaa...actually I waited until my mom tried it first for Charlie horses because that is the solution for them there horrific cramps! Please try it and actually rub it a bit on the problem spots. I hope it works for you and any others posting on this subject. SWEET DREAMS!!!

have you had someone rub your arms and legs down good with muscle cream ?Iknow once I got the icey hot sleeves and had hubby rub my arms and legs down with muscle cream it felt alot better. Those icey hot sleeves on my arms and legs were wonderful.Hot bath in epson salt helps some too.I hates it during my w/d cold turkey I had it in my arms and legs and it was awful. If ever I went cold turkey again I would buy 4 boxes of icey hot sleeves ,muscle cream, bananas, and epson salt.

I forced myself to ride a bike, swim laps, walk whatever it took and it helped tremendously.  I didn't take anything for it so it was hard the first week but this too shall pass

When you guys talk about RLS, what exactly is it you feel? Is it just a jumpy thing like a twitch?

In my w/d's my legs, arms and back get this thing where it feels like the my bones are literly "twisting" inside. Its almost violent and I have to either shake my legs or arms or adjust my back. I dont mean just move them (my limbs and back), I have to flail excessivly to get a temporary relief.

I understand what you said about "walking the halls of yoour house at night" , I too have to do this for my legs, I cant just lay there.

I have heard other people mention "cramping". Mine are kinda like that, but not, if that makes sense.

I do take Lyrica for my feet anyways. I have neuropothy in them that feels like spasims anyways. Like Im being poked with a needle. The Lyrica does help a little with the w/d I experince.

Its funny the w/d are kinda different for everyone. If it wasnt for the "twisting" I feel during w/d's, it would almost be a piece of cake.

I have no idea but it did help me with the rls.My mother has had rls for some time now and she told me about it.Then I read about it at peoplespharmacy.com and people said it worked so I tryed it.That along with the other things I did would help me get some rest at night.I hope it works for you.

I can tell you this if I ever went cold turkey again the first thing I would do is go and buy like 4 boxes of those icey hot sleeves, epson salt and muscle cream.I still keep the bar of soap in my bed (change it once a month) and will continue. My mother has rls (not from w/d) and I know it has helped her.I know it sounds weird but if you go to the people's pharmacy you can read about it.I hope it helps.

I can tell you that I truly think time is the only thing that takes it away,I do know for a fact that the icey-Hot sleeves when put on your legs and arms at night does help enough to rest.I bought 4 boxes the last time I went cold turkey off of 140 mg of vicodin and it helped enough so that I could sleep a few hours. The only thing that takes it away is time.I think I had rls in my arms and legs for the first week when that went away I had ADHD head for a week then my w/d's were over.I also took hot epson salt baths and had my hubby rub my arms and legs with muscle cream then put a sleeve on each arm and leg and I also put a new unwrapped bar of soap (I know this sounds odd)under my bottom sheet in my bed(where my feet were) and that I think helped too.I read that on a site called people's pharmacy, people who suffer from rls put the soap in their bed and it helped them.So I gave it a try and I do think it helped some. When I went cold turkey I was a mess and would have done anything to get rid of the symptoms.I hope you find releif soon .

rls is the reason everytime i went ct i would use again, i have stomach problems, so im use to throwing up, nausea, and the runs, i suffer from migrains for for 10 years so the headaches didnt bother me, the cravings i had where ok but then i dont think i really made it long enough on ct to really get strong cravings i only made it 2 days the longest, what really got me was the rls i had it 24/7 in my whole body it felt like and it was so bad at night, i wuold move sooooo much that my husband slept on the couch, and the no sleeping really didnt bother me cause i have had problems with sleeping since i was really little, so if wds did involve rls i think i would have no problem with wds cause im use to the rest of them

One of my dear friends has parkinsons...the mechanism or true rls is very similar...one of the reasons it acts up at night is because ur mind is not occupied...if u ever watch a parkinson patient, they do not tremor when they are concentrating on something...until the later stages that si

I have it in my left arm as well as my legs it is seriously a horrible side effect that takes time to lose that from wds. I can only guess it has something to do with our brains stopping to produce dopamine from all the opiate abuse and it takes time for us to straighten out regarding hormone production. Get up and walk I can remember nights of walking the halls of my house so tired I thought I would fall over unconscious but could not slepp because of the rls. Wal-green's sells a homeopathic pill manufactured by Hyland's it is called Restful Legs and I bought some and it eased a bit not alot but anything is worth the effort. It might work well for you. I suggest giving it a try.

I had rls and it drove me nuts. Someone told me to try the stockings that you wear in the hosptial after an operation...those long white tight ones. I went to Walgreens and bought them. They really worked great for me.

You can do many of the things mentioned above. They'll probably help you. I hope they do. But like Sarah said, time is the healer of all things. And it will pass soon. I don't know your history, but mine was fairly heavy, for a LONG time. The RLS was probably 10 days, give or take. I hope you do well with what you are doing
Best wishes

oh...may want to scratch that magnesium citrate as it caused many people to have the runs...it is used as a laxative in higher doses so would not be a good idea during detox (:

There was a study conducted at my hopsital recently on RLS.  My pain mgt doctor was in charge and it lasted a month and the patients came back in on a weekly basis. I helped him record the data as after being on the forum i saw that many have this from opiate withdrawal, although many people also have it from other causes like my mother and it can be very annoying and cause a lack of sleep than is much needed during detox.
It was noted that the majority of the patients had an iron deficiency and had low levels of dopamine. One elderly lady who had it very badly was on a parkinson drug for it called levadopa.  My pain doctor wanted to use natural supplements and avoid.  It was also noted that the more active the people were as far as an exercise regime, the less severe the symptoms were for them.  Below is what he prescribed for them.
All are over the counter supplements.

IRON-  taken with vitamin C and zinc to aid in the absorption of the iron
Folic acid 400-800 mg along with B-12 500-1000 mcg
Magnesium - 800 mg at night or magnesium citrate 100-250 mg at night taken with a small glass of tonic water
Choline -1000-2000 mg a day (choline increases dopamine in the system and is also believed to decrease the urge to smoke)

Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine were to be avoided

Time.

I had it terribly in both arms and legs.
Took all of the above suggestions, but in the end it will be time that takes them away.

I used for over 10 years and mine were gone after about a month.
