norco withdrawl

I am so glad I found this site. Reading everything here has been so helpful. I have been taking Norco's steadily for about 2 years now. Up until about 7-8 days ago I was taking 10-14 per day. Last week I received a phone call that my cousin who I was raised very close with collapsed on the street and is on death's door. He is a heroin addicted and has been struggling spiraling for about 5-7 years now. I hadn't seen him in about 2 years. I went to the hospital having no idea what I was in for. My heart is broken. No words can say how I felt that day. He told me he knows I take Norcos and to watch myself. I was in the hospital the week previous with a herinated disc in my low back and siatic nerve pain. I slowed down and have not been taking the Norco's now for like the last 5 days. I had no idea what I was doing and have felt so sick for days now. Last night I came apon this site. A God send. Now I'm trying to figure out the best way out of this mess I'm in. The worst part is loss of appetite and diarreah. Weak and just feel so sick. I did take 3 norcos yesterday about 6pm. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I probably was much the same a few years ago.  It wasn't until last year, I finally figured out I was withdrawing as well.  Hit head on desk!  :)  Just knew I had restless legs like crazy.  I think that covered the other symptoms as I just thought I was sick from no sleep.  Did not make the connection that when I got back on the pills..the restless legs went away!  Duhhhhhh!

That makes so much sense. I was kicking myself last night after figuring out it was withdrawl/detox and taking those pills. I'm gonna take your advice and not take another one and ride this out. Thank you.... from the bottom of my <3

Might as well stop...you are gonna just keep the withdrawals longer by taking even one or two.  I understand, but hurting longer is not a great idea.  Glad you found this group..great site...good support and help.  Hope this helps:

I kept telling myself...YOU HAVE the FLU!  It will be over and I will feel so much better.  My brain seemed to get that and settled down a little.  It is hard, but doable!  The Thomas Recipe (bottom of the page) under Health Pages will help.  I did not to the tranquilizers and had to cut back on the Ltryosine, but the rest really helped.  Imodium, Imodium, Imodium (liquid or pills if the liquid can't be found or you can't swallow it) will help.  I took double the dosage for a few days (personal choice) and it helped so much..even with the withdrawals in general and the opiate trots which sucked.

Hydrate and eat! ((gatorade is good) Even if it is just a little every hour or so.(boost or ensure might work for both food and drink)  You have to eat something to keep your energy up as much as possible.

If you have Restless legs..it is hit or miss what works.  Walking seemed to help me some.  Hot bath with epsom salts..a little.  I finally had to get my doctor to refill my restless legs meds (non addictive) to get some sleep.  If nothing works, your doctor might help.  Benedryl or OTC Alteril helps some with sleep issues and you will have them.

One hour at a time is all anyone can ask.  After 2 weeks it gets a little better and I started to say, One day at a time!  Your brain will do all sorts of things to get you to take a pill.  I found if I was hungry..the cravings got worse.  I would try to eat a banana, a few grapes or a few crackers to get that under control.

The hardest part comes after the detox.  Your brain will be all over the place and will try to get you back on the pills...It is having to work and not depend on the pills to help.

Good for you.  I hope all goes well.  You have made a good start coming here....this site has helped me so much!!!  Keep posting!!!!!

Oh wow, I didn't know I was going through withdrawal too! I just thought I was sick. I was wondering why I was getting sick so often.

You're at 5 days so the worst of the physical symptoms should be almost over. I am so glad you found us and posted. Stick with us and we'll help you through.

Hugs,

Minn

Got it. I was actually nieve in that I was addicted. I travel a lot and would not take meds when I had to drive a long distance. I wondered why every time I went out of town on a road trip I would get the flu.....DUHHHH! I'd swallow a pill and wal lag, I was better. Anyway, good for you to do the research and get back in the game of life......it's a great place.

I was exactly like you. I wondered why I got sic each time I stopped my pills and when withdrawing popped up on the computer I almost freaked! My family also didn't know (at first), but they knew something was "off". We think we are acting normal, but we're not. Keep posting and many will give you tips that will help mentally and physically. Your already a day into it, so I'd suggest you stay on task and just stop. Drink sleepy time tea for sleep, advil for any muscle aches and pray for a smooth ride. You can do this. xx

I am so sorry about your cousin. I am sure this was an eye opener in whats to come if you continue down this path. I too had many ahhh haa moments nearing my quit time. First decide whether you want to taper or just quit all together. Start the thomas recipe you'll find in the health pages. Drink plenty of gatoraid or apple juice. You will not feel spunky for a few days, but with each day you will heal and feel stronger. You are very wise to end this nonsense. It just gets worse with time and age. More will be along to give you tips to get off and stay comfortable. Much luck and support xx
