Should I go to the doctor?

So in my post yesterday, I have established that I have a dependency to my vicodin. I take anywhere from 5-80mg a day to feel normal.

I know I want to get these pills out of my life, so my question is, should I talk to my doctor about this for help, or go through the WD myself?

Help.

Didn't realize that you only take 5mg sometimes for a whole day. You should b fine with the cold turkey method, I'm sure it'll b tough but you can do it as long as you wanna do it. I don't think the subutex is the rite choice for you from what I've read and what my doctor has told me. My apologies

Go to your doctor and explain what your goin through they are there to help before it gets worse. I was taking 80 even 90mg at once more than once a day for that "normal feeling". I could take 90mg and function as if I took 5mg. I got hurt and was prescribed the vicodin but only for about 4 months, after that I started buying em from whoever I could spending well over $2,500 and taking hundreds if not thousands of pills. There is help out there you just gotta take the first step and get it. I did that yesterday and went to a recovery place and got prescribed Subutex in order to ease the withdrawls. They are still workin on my doses and will be for a few days in order to get it rite. I'm not doin so well today threw up a few times and have a horrible migraine but I'm sick of spending all my money on pills and feeling depressed when I didn't have any. I quit my job in order to get ****** up more and lost most of my friends due to this addiction. I would even make excuses to avoid my family in order to get messed up.
Id say go to the doctor before its to late and you get worse or mess up your body permenantly. Its hard to do the cold turkey I tried five or six times and lasted the longest 5 days but felt so bad I had to take a pill. I tried smokin weed and takin xanax (not at same time) to calm me down but it didn't work. There is help out there you just need to want help.
Good luck id like to hear how ur doin

Well since you dont take much you should be able to do it on your own. You could always ask your reguar dr for a referral to a therapist if you decide to go that route with aftercare. I highly reccommend immodium when you do quit because your stomach will be off for awhile and it helps BIG time. On this page is the Thomas recipe and Amino protocol that seem to help a lot of people...good luck.

The doctor I will most likely be able to see first is my regular doctor. He is not the one that prescribes the meds, my doc from the VA does. I usually see my regular doctor for acute problems and the VA doctor for chronic stuff and for back pain.

yeah, i think i am going to go it alone, but that 5mg usually only lasts for half the day after that, I get extremely fatigue, have severe back pain, and bad body aches until I take more... I'll figure something out.

Well it depends you could do either. If you go to the dr you will more than likely be cut off from pain pills so make sure you want to quit and are ready. He may or may not have you wean off or go cold turkey. He may be able to give you other meds to help with the wd's. On the other hand if you dont want him to know then you can do it alone. Cold Turkey is a week of misery (3-4 days the worse) but then physically you get better. Then you have to deal with the mental and emotional....it would be a good idea to go to na or see a therapist for that. Whatever you decide you can do it. Good luck.

Sorry, I didn't see your post from yesterday. So, if you get a legitimate script from the doctor than I would say definitely see him/her and follow their plan.

If you take only 5 mgs some days and feel "normal", then maybe you could do this on your own.

Which ever you decide we will support you and give you some suggestions that worked for us.
