hydrocodone and sweating? Help!

I was impressed by the responses in this forum, so I hope you can help me too!  I am on hydrocodone for back pain.  I happen to be 49 1/2 years old which puts me into menopause territorry; however, I have been prescribed ALL manner of drugs to combat menopausal sweating such as Effexor, Gabapentin, Bellergal etc...

I'm beginning to think that the sweating has something to do with the hydrocodone....could this be true?  I usually only take one or two a day, but have had to take the max prescribed of 4 a few times.

Can anybody out there help me....this is interferring in my life.  I can barely move a muscle without breaking out into the kind of sweat that soaks your hair and runs down your face.

I've been on hydrocodone for a few years and it did not have this effect on me in the beginning...I was wondering if my liver is pitching a fit or something.

I was afraid to ask my doctor because I seem to sense that doctors these days are ultra sensitive to drug seeking behaviors and I didn't want him to think that I am abusing the med (because I'm not).  Please help me...this is making me a mental case.  I don't want to move off of the couch to do anything for fear of the sweating then freezing chills after I'm soaked.  Thank you for any advice.

Unless you are a heavy drinker or use additional tylenol I dont think your liver is a problem. Vicadin did cause me to have horrible hot flashes, especially at nite. Maybe between the age and the vicadin together mite be causing the problem. Also it may be some wd comming on if this happens 3-4 hours after a dose. Your body may be building up a tolerence to the meds and telling you that it wants more or needs more.

I definitely experience hot flashes when I take opiates. I have been clean for almost five days now and have hardly had any in the last 24 hours. This morning I was actually chilly at my desk which never happens.

Not sure if this will help you but here goes....

When I was in the trolls of my withdrawl (from Norco... 8-10 a day x's 3 years)  and was having the sweats big time...

I placed a cool damp towel around the back of my neck...

I LIVED with 'my towel' for about 4 days straight...I even slept with it...

Hope this helps you some...

I am way past menopause and I have been on Hydrocodone for 7 years now. At first I did not suffer sweating but after a few years I sweat severely at night and then I freeze. I also break into sweats during the day and then I am cold. I had Cushing's disease and then Adrenal failure 7 years ago and I feel that my adrenals are crashing but I have had my blood tested and they are normal now.......there seems to be only one answer.......the Hydrocodone is making me sweat and I fear it is making me feel ill. It seems when it hits the 3-4 hour mark after the last 10/325 pill I start to feel sick. I get cold and just feel really crappy, achy and ill. I have to take a pill and go to bed and rest and then I feel some better but never well. I feel I am going into a detox and also after some exercise or exertion I feel the drug leaves my system sooner and it needs more. I did detox myself 2 years ago and it was pure hell. I stayed off the Hydrocodone for 5 months but I developed severe neuropathic burning pain in my low spine and butt and couldn't even sit down. I have not been able to sleep and don't get Delta sleep ever since the detox even though I had to go back on the Hydrocodone as I was allergic to most of the meds for the neuropathic burning pain..........but the Hydrocodone isn't the right drug. During the time I was off the Hydrocodone the sweating stopped........I know it is the drug but can't go through another detox and don't know what to do about all the other types of pain I have plus I can't sleep and become manic. I tried Fentanyl patch but I still needed the Hydrocodone. I am at a lost as to what to do but I can tell you all that I feel the Hydrocodone is a very nasty toxic dependent drug and hard to take and deal with life. I also know it affects my moods and depression.

I am only 26 but I am taking hydrocodone for a soft tissue neck pain and it has only been about a month. Every time I take one, a few hours later I will sweat profusely. I was kind if wondering if anyone knew how long this will last?

I am so gald you started this topic. Same problem here with the hydro and sweating. I am 52 but went thru early meopause. I have been on hydrocodone four 10 mgs per day for for years. There is definitely a connection between the meds and the sweating as last year I was off meds for several months and never had a drop of sweat during that time. Back on meds and back to drenching nightclothes and bedsheets!!! I can't even hug people sometimes....and I am a lifelong hugger. But it is just too embarrassing! Miss my hugs and hope we can all figure out a solution!

Ask you Dr. about Morphine sulphate.
It is slow release and does not ever give your mind or body a jolt, rush or what ever. This will help a lot to keep you away from hydro. and for me does the %80 job on neuropathic burning. I have it in my feet and legs I know it is a tough road for you and am very sorry about your pain. I can not imagine having it in my butt

How long have you been on Morphine sulphate? I have extreme burning pain in my feet and achilles tendons. I was on hydro for a couple years until my liver enzymes went up, now on oxy 20 mg a day and I get horrible headaches (not my thing), also tried gabapentin but didn't work. Looking for something to help with choric foot pain. Already had surgery to fix plantar facia tears. Would love to hear how the Morphine is working for foot pain.

I have been taking hydrocodone for eleven years.  I did not start having these uncontrollabe sweats until about two years ago.  I had a hystorectomy back in 1991.  This is not hormons.  Every time I don't take my pain pill I have no trouble with sweating.  They had to have changed the ingredients.  I don't drink or abuse my pills.  I am not coming off any pills so it cant be from that

I never came back to this site and didn't know I had replies. I guess I was in too much pain to figure out how this works. My doctor finally put me on a high dose of Fentanyl and I stayed on it a little over 3 years. Talk about hell. I had so many bad reactions to the drug. I have been detoxing myself at home since Jan 1, 2014 and it has been one tough road but I am 13 days off of Fentanyl. I am still weak, sick and my body is burning from the detox over every inch. I am on fire......but after 10 years being on narcotics and doing it the doctor's way, I am done. NO more!! It's been one hell of a roller coaster ride with these drugs and they haven't controlled my pain and only have served to make me more ill and suffer more. I will continue to ride out the effects of WD and then see what my body is like. I wish everyone who suffers pain and opiate dependency much success. My choice now is to just deal with my pain and say no to narcotics. In the long term they just don't work.

No one goes thru 13 days of withdrawal the physical effects of withdrawal subsides after 4 days.so if u r still feeling sick after 13 days u have something else wrong with ya

All opiates make you sweat, even the non-narcotic ones like tramadol.  I sweat really bad on them, especially if I go through a period in which I have taken more than normal.

I think it may be the effexor. I've only taken hydrocodone a few times and it made me sweat like crazy -- especially at night. I am a 27 year old man. So, I don't think menopause has anything to do with it. I was sweating bullets while it was snowing outside. I think maybe the effexor intensifies it.

The thing that did the trick for me (most times) was putting a damp, cool towel on my stomach at night. Even used an ice pack...  I sweated for MONTHS before it finally stopped! Good luck!

I am so happy I found your post.  I am a 57 y/o MALE, so the metaphase is not an issue.  I have complained about this to my doctor and she didn't understand why (she is a great Dr by the way).  I have neuropothy due to a poor outcome from a hip replacement and I  have some serious burning, electric shocks, and a host of other problems to include pain in my hips both in the groin area and the outside.  I take 120Mg of Cymbolta and 2400 Mg of Gabipention for the leg and 30 Mg of Mobic for the hip pain.  When I need a bit more help with the hip pain, I take 5/325 MG of Hydroco App.  On my worst day I have taken as many as 6 of my Hydraco App but two is normal on my bad days.  I do not take it every day.  However when I do take it about four hours later I start to sweat really, really bad.  I thought it was due to the Hydroco and you should know you are not alone.  My Dr has me keeping a log of when I take it and when I sweat.  Guess what?  I do not sweat getting out of a chair on the days I don't take it.

I have been taking Norco for a few years now n have sweats . They come on suddenly n last a few seconds a few times a day. I have had a hysterectomy, but I don't think it is that. I do not abuse this medication, I take,as,directed. Is this a side effect of the drug?
