Day 2. Sure could use some encouragement!

Day 2:  Hurt like never before.  Knees hurt, feet feel like they are on fire, my body feels like it weighs 1000lbs, it takes all my energy just to drag my bag of bones out of bed and my ears are ringing like crazy.  Please tell me this is normal, that I'm on my way and in a few days I'll feel better.

Yes, day two was a killer for me too... i made about 20 journal entries of every crappy thing that was happening. I read it now and can't believe how so much changed as the days... even hours went by. Relief is on it's way... trust me. You will feel better and better... all my best!

Take it day by day and know it's going to get better. I've gotta tell you that it scares me that you aren't planning for anything after you start felling better. I promise you I never thought I'd battle this for 15 years. I thought I could quit on my own and before you know it here I am. I was a respectable athlete, father, husband, leader in my community and the first 20 times I quit, I tried giving the beast the finger and the F*****er bit it off.

Not to be preachy, but I do recommend opening your mind up to trying out an N/A meeting or two. I never thought they'd help me either. Now that I go, I see how much better I feel during and after the meetings that I am in the middle of a thing called 90 in 90. That's 90 meetings in 90 days and it has pulled me through these last 4-5 days.

Best of luck in whatever it takes to help you stay clean.

I'm about a week ahead of you buddy....It gets much better in a few days. I promise you. I know you already know that, but I know it helped me to hear it again and again. I too had to take time off work with the "flu" just to get through the worst...... I've battled opiates for far too long only to try my luck with suboxone. Oddly enough I abused them too. Now 10 days of sobriety I feel much better. Actually by day 6-7 I was able to get up and move around. On my 7th day, after going to an N/A meeting I was able to come home and work out with my wife. Some "bouncey-dancey" workout thing. I sweat my junk off but for 3-4 hours after I felt so freakin' good. That anxious knot between the shoulder blades went away. Today I still have little energy, and more anxiety than I care to have, but for everyone I caused pain to over my 15 years of abuse I deserve a couple of weeks of discomfort to remind myself how far I have to stay away from these mind altering drugs.
I must also strongly recommend N/A or A/A meetings. They supply power to your will when you are running on empty.

Best of luck man and stick to your plan!

Thanks for all the replies.  This may sound strange but during the day today I had a few short periods where I felt pretty good and the pain seemed to go away.  Now if I could only get over these stomach cramps and gas I would be much better.  Thanks again for the support.

Yep...All normal. And I agree with the above - try to get out of bed. You will feel bad physically, but the important thing is to keep your mind occupied. During my detox I spent a lot of time on this forum reading, and eventually started posting. I won't candy-coat it - this will be one of the hardest things you've ever done, but the good news is it stops, and pretty quickly.
Try to eat and drink. You're body is going through hell so it needs fuel. If you can't eat, try drinking Ensure (the chocolate flavor did it for me); if you're visiting the bathroom a lot, find a drink that has electrolytes added. When you are able to eat, eat like a pig - healthy stuff - carbs.
You are half way through this. Hundreds of us have done it - no reason for you not to be one of us.

Hot Epsom salt baths and a heating pad.  Lots of water and green tea.  You are doing great keep at it! Moving around helps a ton even though you don't feel like you can.  Sending you lots of encouragement and strength!

Congrats on 2 days!!!  Yes you will feel better in a few days.  The best thing you can do is drag yourself out of bed and move around.  I know this part is no fun but it does pass.  Your body is working very hard to heal now.  Drink plenty of fluids and try to eat something.  Bland foods are the best.  You can do this!!!
