My question is I have decided to go cold turkey for the 3rd time
from hydro one or oxycodone about 15 10/325 each day for last 2
years...I was so absolutely just hating life ( I am on day three)...i decided
to take 1 50 mg tab of tramadol at night last night and tonight...will these 2
tablets of tramadol prolong my withdrawal symptoms?? I have to go back to work

P.S.- you are succeeding: you are doing it.

You got rid of your pills (yay.)

And one of the fabulous (ha) aspects of continued using is that withdrawls get worse as time goes on. So that's why this one feels worse. So, it's not unusual:)

Hey, desperate- Purrfectly pretty much covered all that you will need. It's also called the Thomas recipe- it's on this forum.

Listen, we all know how HORRIBLE wds are. Lack of energy is the worst. But, in 3 days you will prob be better. And it's amazing how adrenaline and just having to do tasks will get you thru work. There are peeps on here who have detoxed and had to go to work AND take care of toddlers! It's not easy but also it may be better than sitting around thinking about how sh!tty you feel. Oh, and in 3 days, which is day 6 for you, you should be better, and over that "hump."

You will be ok. Stay close. And vent all you want!!:)

BTWs (brain fog again)  I meant you are not a bad WOMAN not man.  I seriously looked at your profile and still typed MAN.  I'm 69 days in and still praying that this brain fog goes away soon.  It is NOT as bad as it was a month ago but still....there are times.....sheesh!

I almost forgot (darned brain fog)...you can start on aftercare from the comfort of your own home for the next few days.  Look up SMARTRecovery and also do a Google Search for substance abuse recovery online meetings.  There are several others that you can join online.  Check out a few of them...it will give you a head start until you are able to check out some local AA/NA meetings :-)

Hey there! Read and re-read what Krazy and kitty wrote. They got me
Thru this and next week I'm at 90 days clean. If not for this site and these angels in wee hours I would not have gotten thru that week. But for real, aftercare is the key to staying off this time around. It works if you work it!

A few weeks ago a lovely lady who went by the name of Owl used most of the comfort items for WD symptoms as was able to go back to work within 5 total days.  I think you can too...just use what you need...get rid of the last of your pills.  It is just going to make things worse.  If you can get the items that you need most for the symptoms bothering you the most I don't see why you can't make it back to work in 3 more days.  You won't be 100% but by that time you will need to keep yourself busy!

Let us know if there is anything else you need and keep posting, it helps, especially when you can't sleep...if no one is really chatting then read the other posts...it helps to know that others are out there doing the same thing you are and you might run across a tidbit of information that will click with you and help you out!

God Bless you hun....you are doing the right thing...let's deal with the physical right away and that way you can get to the those meetings and get started with the emotional part~

So glad you are here....and that you've joined our little (well actually kind of big) family~

Here is a list of all sorts of things used to ease the symptoms of doing WD CT..the hard way.  I have to say please don't hate yourself...learn to love yourself.  You have a disease.  You are NOT a bad man.  Once again you have a disease and just like most people who have a disease they have to live with their whole life you just need to learn to manage it.  You are on the right path...you just need to figure out what your triggers are and why you didn't succeed in your prior attempts.  WD symptoms seems to be one of the biggest reason people don't succeed and the other is hanging onto "relief or just in case drugs".  Anyway, take a look at the list.  There might be some items on there that will help you...certainly with restless/insomnia and there is a suggestion there for help with the energy too.  Hang in there friend...you can do this...lots of support here for you!!  Long list...but read it through :-)

First, use the Search MedHelp and search for the Thomas Recipe.

Restless Leg Syndrome:  Hylands Restless Leg Tablets (make sure it is the kind with Quinine in it)
Tonic Water (Schweppes is a good one) that also has quinine in it, sip on it until bedtime.  Add something to it if you don't like the taste.  I used sugar-free Crystal Light Tangerine flavor in mine.
Orthopedic socks, the tight ones for the lower legs
Ace bandages for the upper legs and arms, wrap tightly or use towels wrapped tightly
Before wrapping everything up rub some Ben Gay or Tiger Balm into the skin
       Heating Pads

Big bag of Epsom Salts:  A good 15 to 20 soak in a really hot bath with salts in it will relieve a lot of your symptoms like anxiety for a while in addition to helping get toxins out of your skin.  Take as many per day as needed, definitely take one before you wrap up for RLS for the night.

Water, Lifewater with Electrolytes, Gatorade, anything to make sure you don't get dehydrated because that will make your symptoms worse.  If you have a juicer fresh juice would be terrific as long as your tummy can handle it.

Protein shakes, bananas, toast, rice, applesauce...whatever your tummy can handle.  We never want to eat but the same thing goes here...if you don't eat a little bit your symptoms will be worse.

Sleep and Anxiety:  Chamomile Tea, Melatonin, Sundown Super Melatonin (has Valerian, Passion Flower and other items good for sleep and anxiety).  You can go the Valium route IF your doctor prescribes and you would only want to use it for maybe 7 days because you don't want to wind up addicted to benzo's.

Vitamins:  Cal-Mag-Zinc 3in1, Good Multi-Vitamin, Super B Complex, Amino Acids like L-Lysine, B-12 injection or sublingual (this is for after the insomnia part of WD is over) for energy.  Try to get these items at Walmart...you will save at least 50% over a drugstore like Walmart.

Bathroom Issues:  Immodium...some people say to take 8 tablets daily.  Some say 4.  You want to slow it down but not stop it completely because it is another way for your body to void the toxins.

Tummy Issues:  Zantac or any OTC tummy product.  You can also talk to your doctor about Zofran if it is really bad.

Chocolate:  This one doesn't do much of anything EXCEPT for hit the same center of your brain that the opiates do...the pleasure center.  The few people that it has been suggested to said it was an awesome suggestion.

Clonidine if your doctor will prescribe it.  It is a high blood pressure medication so you need to talk to your doctor first.  It is also used for opiate, nicotine and alcohol withdrawals.  It does help reduce the symptoms quite a bit...usually it is 0.1 mg twice a day though the doctor may prescribe more if you are taking a high amount of opiates.

A local couple who provide fresh raw honey swear by bee pollen sprinkled on cereal, salads, vegies...pretty much whatever you want to put it on will help.

jifmoc is right...just taking a few more than likely set your WD's back.  You really need to get rid of all pills if you want to succeed at CT withdrawals.  Cut off all suppliers and people you can get pills from, destroy the ones you have and tell your doctor and pharmacist that you are an addict and that you are quitting.  I wish I could tell you otherwise but none of us succeed unless we go for it 100%.

Since you have done this 3 times I would advise that you start on aftercare now....whether it is NA or AA meetings, an addiction counselor, a pastor...whatever it takes...I believe that you may need more emotional support than usual to "make it"

Are you doing okay with your symptoms...if you have any symptoms that are really, really bad please tell us what they are and we'll give you what knowledge we have for things you can use to tone down the symptoms some.

Even if you don't please make sure to drink lots of liquids because dehydration makes it worse...water, life water with electrolytes, gatorade.  I also know you probably don't want to eat but try...protein shakes, bananas, toast...that type of thing.

Let us know what else you could use....we are a family here and would love for you to succeed.  You just need to remember that addiction is an "I" disease but recovery and sobriety is a "we" situation.  We go through it together, we help each other, we support each other, etc.

Take care and keep posting~

Hey there. Yes, taking "a few more" opiates (tramadol, too) could set your wds back.

You said this is your 3rd time detoxing. Are you gonna get rid of all your pills and go thru this (for the last time!) If you read more on here, you will see that we have to get rid of all our contacts and start aftercare in order to STAY clean.

Keep posting:)
