what specialty Doctor did you go see to find out your Chemical Imbalance?
That's what IM THINKING!!!!
Spill it, boss!
;0)
Does somebody we all know and love have a bun in the oven?
Umm.....does that tracker mean what I THINK it does?
;0)
any chemical imbalance of your body can cause anxiety, so the answer to that question is yes. it's a warning from your body that something is not right. The problem with anxiety is when we allow it to consume our lives. especially when the doctors don't always have the answer of where it is really coming from. It could be something as simple as stress or tramatic events but there could be hidden problems that go undiagnosed and trigger anxiety such as stomach problems, diabetes, high blood preasure and etc. I personally don't see anything wrong with taking meds for anxiety for a brief period but don't stop looking for answer until you've investigated the other symptoms that are usaully masked in the panic process. Mine came from my stomach and when i treated the actual problem, it took care of the anxiety too.
can diabetes cause anxiety???
Hello. I tried to send this privately but couldn't. It looks like the link you were reporting was copied and pasted from a website that has the Ashton Manual on it. Professor Ashton seems very qualified in the benzo department. I agree that the equivalencies seem a little off, but I think there's a reason for that. If you notice, Professor Ashton never says to take that much Valium at one time. In my opinion, she wants to be sure the patient has a slow, comfortable transition from, in this case, Xanax to Valium to eventually nothing. I would put a link to the website, but I don't know if that's acceptable. It's a very interesting manual. I'm sure you could find it online if you want.
Thanks for letting me share.
Id never tell anyone what doses or what meds to take, and def not what to do, as im not a dr... but i will give my own personal advice from meds that ive used and howt hey worked for MYSELF.
My husband has been on Xanax for 15 years and it is taking the life out of him. He really wants to quit and get his life back. He is currently taking 3mg a day. I am just wondering what we could do to taper him off slowly, and not cold turkey. Please give me some information, cause what I am reading out there it is scaring the heck out of me. I don't want my husband to die if he did it the wrong way by going cold turkey. Thank you for your time.....

Like Mr. Green said, if you identify a post in OUR forum, please notify one of the CL's via a private message, or you can use the "report" feature to the right of the post, and from the drop down menu, choose "abuse" as the reason.
I would personally prefer that members try to PM us first so we can try to address it first and explain the rules to the poster. Also, like Mr. Green said, we have no control over what is posted in other forums. I DO know that they also have rules in place about the same kind of issues (posting medical advice). My suggestion in those cases is to PM the CL's of those forums....they are very easy to find, look for the purple flower by their user name. I know they would appreciate a head's up about that kind of thing.
Worth adding in that that post is not on the anxiety forum. It is part of the addiction forum. Looks like a blog entry. The CL's here are not in control of any other forum other than this forum. You can report any posts you see fit to report by hitting the report button which comes with blog posts and all forum posts.
If you notice that a member is posting specific medical advice, please notify one of the CL's immediately via PM.
I'd like to report this link:
http://www.medhelp.org/tags/health_page/45/Addiction/Tapering-from-Benzodiazepines?hp_id=592
Not only is this "specific medical advice", the equivalencies listed are flawed and could kill someone - particularly an older individual. 4 milligrams of Alprazolam is equivalent to 40 milligrams of Diazepam - NOT 80 milligrams of Diazepam as posted on this alleged "health page". Can you say respiratory depression, hypoxemia and cardiopulmonary collapse? I knew you could!
If you need a major medical reference to render a determination, I would recommend Kaplan and Sadock's "Synopsis of Psychiatry", 2007, page 458.
Thanks for this post.. I understand better now.
Thank you for explaining your guidelines more clearly.
Medication discussions are fine. What we're talking about here is actual straight forward "instructions" on how to use/dose their med.
Example...someone comes to the forum asking how to slowly taper off xanax. What we DON'T want to see is a detailed dosing plan to the OP.
Example...someone asks a general question about trying an antidepressant. We DON'T want to see people saying something like..."I think you should try Prozac at 20 mg per day"
Example...someone states their dose of Klonopin, and the response (undesired one) is something like...."You should be taking 0.5 mg three times daily". On the contrary...it would be acceptable to post something like..."Klonopin is optimally dosed a two or more times a day, and a typical starting dose is 0.25 mg". That is factual info.
General factual info about meds is just fine. Nothing in the forum will change, pretty much the concern we have that prompted this message is small....we rarely see the kind of advice that we're talking about here. IF you are in doubt as to whether someone has posted specific medicatio instructions...simply PM us and we'll have a look.
Hope that cleared things up a bit...thank you!!
I think any questions on the matter were meant to be asked in a private message. So as to leave the thread blank. But you say what helped you. The whole point is we are not doctors and should not talk about amounts of medication. Medication is the key area. Theraphy is fine. What you done to get over the condition. But all medication should be between patient and doctor. With the exception of saying you had certain side effects too on various medication. People always ask about side effects. I see no worries if you say you had them too. That just shows they come with the medication. But I am sure Nursey will clear this up all the more. Probably delete the few posts as well. Just to keep the thread up top of the forum and blank except for the guidelines.
What constitutes medical advice? If we speak of what helped us, is that medical advice? If we discuss something that had a bad effect on us, and suggest they be careful of it, is that medical advice? If we suggest a vitamin, is that medical advice?
If we were restricted to merely suggesting that the person posting a question go to a doctor, there would be no point to this forum. We see it either as an exchange of experiences, or advice given from some particular knowledge. Perhaps I have not completely understood your guidelines. It would be helpful if you could be more specific.
