Anxiety and exercise

Frequently when I exercise I have moderate to serious anxiety type symptoms from one to four hours after exercise.  It is random but frequent and the level of the problem also varies from moderate to severe.  I seem to able to walk without a problem but jogging or weightlifting can bring it on.  Symptoms are loss of concentration, trouble typing and the feeling that I have had 20 cups of coffee.  I have been to many doctors, done stress and low blood sugar tests with everything negative and no explanation.  I am an executive and because of the problem, I only exercise when I do not have a meeting that day that this could affect me.  I never exercise when traveling for fear the symptoms will limit my ability to work.  I have no chest pains during or after exercise and am not tired or exhausted after exercise.  It is just some time after exercise, never during exercise, that this kicks in.  I need to lose 30 pounds and enjoy and have a strong desire to exercise but this makes it very difficult.  I eat right, zero caffeine and two glasses of wine is a lot for me on the alcohol side.  I have a prescription for valium for an ear problem that I have.   The valium is the one thing that I can take that helps with the symptoms.  If I get it bad, it can last up to two days but usually goes away the next day, typically in the afternoon the day after the symptoms begin.  Thank you

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.

I stopped lifting weights for 2 weeks because of the same exact symptoms.  I felt better...then lifted weights for 1 day...and the symtpoms were back!

I can do all kinds of intense cardio WITH NO problems afterwards.

If you have found an answer, please let me know.

So it's not your heart and not your blood sugar and that's great. Do you think it's anxiety?

I think this isn't really a question we can give you any answers on if a doctor hasn't been able to. I can't see why you'd have anxiety that was dependent on the level of exertion. Have you exercised with a monitor on? Maybe your heart does an unusual beat after strenuous exercise and that is what tires you out. I'm sure all the heart tests have been completed.

Make sure you drink water before exercise. I have underestimated how important that one is.

Walking is a great way to lose weight. Maybe you can find ways to make it more enjoyable. How about a learning a foreign language on i-pod, or meeting a friend.

Sorry, my first post so I will try to be more clear.  I am trying to get to the bottom of what might be causing the symptoms after exercise.  I am also trying to find someone with the same problem.  At first I thought it was hyperclycemia as the symptoms certainly sounded like it. That was proven not to be the case.  Bloating has nothing to do with it but the symptoms described above can be dehabilitating at times and to avoid them, I seldom exercise (other than walking), which I don't like.  The purpose of exercising is for all the right reasons, including contributing to a generally otherwise healthy lifestyle.  With respect to the exercise, let's say I start walking on a treadmill four times a week at 3.5 miles per hour for 20 minutes.  Let's say that doesn't bother me but then I go to 4 miles per hour for 20 minutes then I hit the wall four hours after the exercising.  It's not related to my heart and it's not related to blood sugar levels.  So I am trying to get to the bottom of it.  As far as altering the exercising in some way...I am not exactly running 400 meter races here.  Thanks

Dare I be the first to ask, so what's your question?

I mean if I exercised I would keel over and die. Been self unemployed means been a bit of a lazy sod and all that goes with it. You ever imagine that you might be over doing it with the auld fitness thing? You sound like you live the life of Reilly. Perfect in every way. Except for when it comes to the exercising part. Can you alter that in some way? As you seem to really want to lose weight. But seem to be doing more harm than good to yourself. So you feel bloated, is that what you are saying? Just trying to get my head round what your problem is. Like you burn yourself out to the point where you can do nothing. Understanding why anxiety like symptoms would follow on from exercise is the thing we have to try and figure out. Is the exercise just to lose weight? Just asking a few questions so the next person in might see your problem a bit more clearly.
