I think you need to consult with your therapist, some counselling might help you know the cause of your anxiety issues. I have been on xanax from 2 years and now my dosage is reduced, this pills helped me a lot in reducing panic attacks and anxiety issues.
I wouldn't go taking any medication without consulting a doctor. Blood pressure varies constantly in our lives, and it's usually well treated by lifestyle changes -- especially if it's a withdrawal symptom, as with quitting Xanax. If you think you have a physiological problem, see a doctor. If you think you have an anxiety problem, see a psychologist. I'm not sure where the pot comes in -- if you're still smoking, often people get their first anxiety attacks while high. It tends to bring out of us and focus our attention on whatever's going on inside of us. Usually that means it's time to stop smoking, but the anxiety can become a habitual way of thinking and a chronic anxiety problem. When that happens, the best thing to do is see a psychologist who specializes in anxiety treatment and that person can help you decide on a treatment modality. You also have to consider why you needed to get high every day -- more and more people are appearing on this forum who, instead of using pot for fun as you would drink a couple of beers on the weekend are smoking all the time. Whenever you feel a need to get high every day to enjoy your life, it's time to stop whatever you're getting high on because it's no longer something fun to break patterns but has become the reason for living. Good luck.
Have you looked into what your blood pressure is? I have similar episodes after quitting xanax. After I did my bp shot up to 187/110, as a result I now take 90my time delay nifedipine/and 25mg coreg. Since I've been tons better. If you're not in a position for a doc, try taking it yourself at a pharmacy or something...worth a shot? It's s start.
Good luck and god bless
