Yeah, my first anxiety attack was when I was trying to sleep, so I'm pretty sure I now associate it with sleeping. I have tried distractions, but the second the distraction goes away, I'm right back where I started. That's why I eventually gave up and just got on meds. I didn't want to, but as a last resort I decided I had to.
As for the breathing, I'm pretty sure you're right about that as well. I'm just all kinds of messed up:)
It could be because you're focusing so hard on relaxing, that its making you tense, therefore causing anxiety ABOUT relaxing, if that makes sense?
and maybe having a distraction while trying to sleep will allow you to fall asleep. Perhaps music? movies? since there was a time where you were trying to sleep, in the past, and had an anxiety attack while trying to fall asleep, your mind now associates sleep with anxiety, therefore recreating it in your head whenever that trigger (sleep) presents itself.
So like I said, maybe if you had a distraction, you would be able to fall asleep?
Do any of you get anxiety BECAUSE of deep breathing exercises? This is a problem for me. I have no idea why controlled breathing would stress me out, but it usually causes anxiety attacks for me. Or what about anxiety only when trying to sleep? I seem to have developed a phobia of sleeping as I usually only get anxiety when I try to sleep-regardless if it's day or night.
I've had anxiety for about 4 years now, so many weird things happen. Tingling in the arms, hands, head, fingers, etc. are all common. also increased heart rate, dizziness, and nausea to name a few. its all very scary I know. You just have to remember that YOU'RE in control. just remember to take deep breaths, relax. breathing excercises, yoga, meditation, and excercise are all great for reducing stress. also if it is indeed anxiety, valarian root might help a little, I usually take valarian root when I cant sleep, or feel really anxious. However, with all that said, its a great idea to go to a doctor first, make sure you're healthy physically. :) let us know how things work out for you doll.
Have you been diagnosed with anxiety? Nausea is very common with anxiety and so is tingling. If you have'nt seen a Dr yet you really should to find out if this is indeed anxiety. Take care. Remar
