Constant fear of Anxiety

Hello all, I had suffered from a very traumatic energy about a year ago. For as long as I can remember, I have always been an axious kid. Santa was going to hurt me, I was afraid of the first day of school, being attacked...... I am now a 28 year old otherwise healthy female. I have a good job, am in school to recieve my RN license, a loving boyfriend and a great family. I have been put on Zoloft 100mg daily and Ativan 0.5 PRN. I feel though even with all of these meds & sometimes talking to my NP in Psych, I still can't shake the constant anxiety. My symptoms arent what I would call panic attacks, its more like my brain is stuck in the vicous cycle of just thinking about my anxiety (ruminating)?. If i go for a few minutes without thinking about it, I immediatley remind myself "Hey, you didnt think about it".
Wondering if anyone else has ever gone thru this? I have been diagnosed with GAD. Any help/support would be great. I just joined the site because I love reading and hearing from other people who are also maybe going thru what I am!
Thanks :o)

Hi Megs215,

Well, as I'm sure you are aware, the reason why your prescription medications aren't "curing" the anxiety is because the real issues aren't being addressed. I know from experience that although Zoloft and other antidepressants/SSRIs can be effective in dampening the symptoms of anxiety, they do not eliminate it. The only way to truly rid yourself of anxiety is through natural means. You need to really dig down to find out what is truly scaring you. What is making you feel so unsafe? What is it about your life that you don't trust? Is it yourself or other people?
Really dig down to see what the main phobia is here. The clearer you can get on it, the more successful you'll be in dissolving it.
A couple important things to remember when dealing with anxiety is that these are just thoughts. That's it. Your thoughts are not real and are completely in your control. Worrying about something does not prevent it from happening. Often people believe their worries are a method of protection, as if worrying keeps them safe. But the fact is, worrying does nothing. Absolutely nothing. Your thoughts are meant to be uplifting and creative and to keep you at your healthiest and happiest. If a particular thought isn't serving you, choose a different one! And trust that life is on your side.
Remind yourself of this whenever you feel your mind getting pulled into that dark place, then get up, shake it off, and do something that makes you happy.

If you need anything, don't hesitate to send me a message.

All the best!

Brittany

I am so sorry that you are going through such a hard time right now.  I can totally relate to you because I have been dealing with anxiety for the last 10 years and the last year has been really hard.  I start feeling better and then I think that something is wrong because I am not anxious or thinking about the anxiety.  So then it starts all over again.

I have found therapy to be a great outlet for me.  I also keep a journal and I have started yoga.  Yoga has been really helpful and I also do Chakra Healing.  It might seem strange at first but it helps me relax....You can find Chakra sessions on the net.

You can message me anytime if you have questions or if you just want to chat.

I hope you feel better soon.  Keep posting here because it does help...

What are the symptoms of anxiety that you are having? Is it the repetitive thoughts mainly? Being in school is stressful and I know that many people that are learning in the medical field can be prone to anxiety from reading about all the various ailments etc. I would say that therapy might be a good option. I am not really sure what exactly you are experiencing though
