Weird Chest Feeling

Hello
I was wondering if anyone has had this feeling but it's kind of hard to explain. I believe it is what having the "wind knocked out of you" feels like only in a much smaller level of sensation. It happens suddenly so since it's in my chest I sometimes thought it was my heart beating once really hard. It also feels like the  sensation is going from my chest to my throat.

Hey Thanks. Even though I haven't gone to therapy there have been many things that have helped me. Reading the Bible and talking to my family and to people here on the forum about anxiety. I can really see how going it alone can be really hard , but the good thing is that I have family that I can just go to every once in a while and talk about it or, ask them if they've ever had these feelings. It's a whole lot better if you have someone to help you. I have also thought about the unfortunate fact that it can and maybe probably will come back again at some point in my life. For that I really try not to take a lot of time thinking on it because it just causes more anxiety( what a crazy cycle huh?) and also what you said is true the more you learn about anxiety the better you can handle it and hopefully with time be ready for the "next wave". I'm really happy to hear that you too have gotten better even if it's only for an hour. At least you got to go back to the way it was before for an hour and hopefully that hour can become days, months, and then years. That also gives the rest of us hope that WE CAN BEAT IT and that it's NOT IMPOSSBLE. Thanks.

I am always a big proponent on therapy, because anxiety can come in waves and in different fears.  For example, it can lay 'dormant' for years and just come out of the blue in my opinion, but if you know what to look for and really understand it, it really can minimize it to the point of just an annoyance.  I go to a counselor about once every three months just to talk about things and life is going great for me right now..just for about an hour..you would be amazed how much you can learn about yourself and life.  I am glad you are feeling better!

Hey thanks it is better to know that other people have felt this and actually what you are talking about I too have had it. All of those symptoms. I actually just wen't to the eye Doc for some pain and came out ok. About the therapist thing I actually feel like I'm getting better everyday. I'm starting to get "used to" the weird feelings, although it can be a quiet hard when the sensations are in the chest or in the head. I really do agree that confronting it is the best way. Even though it may take some time. About the therapist I was sort of thinking about it, but am also thinking that since I'm doing better and starting to to come out the other side as well that maybe I can get rid of this with out therapy. Any advice on weather or not on the therapy?

I am glad you went to your doctor; now the hard part is believing him/her.  It can be very hard to do, but now medically your ticker is ok, and acceptance of the anxiety is the next step in my opinion.  Trust me, I have been where you have been and feeling every little sensation is truly bothersome.  We tend to become oversensitized to these feelings and quite often can interpret these sensations into something MUCH larger than it really is.  For example, I can sit here and feel every heart beat, palpatation, pain, etc.  I can see my pulse in various parts of my body and sometimes my heart beats fast, sometimes slow, sometimes I get light headed, sometimes I feel like it is going to jump out of my chest...BUT these are all NORMAL feelings.  I bet you had these before you ever started worrying about it; you just didn't think that it was a problem, and thus you didn't really pay attention to it, in my opinion.

You will see so many experiences here in this community that mirror exactly what you are going through; I have been through this and come out on the other side and it has made me a much more well rounded person for it.  Have you ever considered seeing a therapist about this?  Learning about this and confronting it is the best way to thrive with this...knowledge is power.  Keep us posted!

Thank you and there's no problem about the questions. I have recently been having anxiety for 2 months and have gone to the doctor becuase all of a sudden I could hear my own heart beating, felt like I wasnt getting enough air, and had a constant feeling of fear. He has run tests and he said everything was fine and that I was suffering from anxiety. That's how I started coming to the forum to find out more about these weird feelings. As for this particular feeling, it's not something that's always there it just "pops up" all of a sudden like so many other sensations, however I have also noticed standing up quickly causes it sometimes. My Doctor said it was just another sensation from anxiety, but I was just wondering if anyone else had this. It's reassuring to know that other people have felt all of these "weird symptoms" .

Anxiety can cause all sorts of symptoms, including what you describe in my opinion.  Do you feel this in certain situations?  How long have you been feeling it? Have you talked to your doc about it?  Assuming nothing is medically wrong, have you had trouble with anxiety in the past? Sorry to ask so many questions...just want to find out a little bit more!  Keep us posted!
