I am 31 year old male. 1 year back same time I got fear of having brain tumor as i was having very dizzy through out the day. I got for a CT scan and everthing was normal. But my fear did not go away.
Then I consult with a phycatrist and go through paroxitine 12.5 mg daily basis for 2 months. then 1 tablet in two days for 1 month and so on. from last 2 months I was taking 1 tablet in a week. and was doing very good. 15 days back I quitted from paroxitine and in few days start feeling very heavy head. and now from 2 days feel headache but very little through out the day.
i consult with my phycatrist and he told me it can not be a withdrawal symptoms so go and check with physician.
I am again start thinkin of brain tumor....and feeling anxious. can anyone suggest me what may be the reason of this heavy head and little headche.
I do not want to goto any doctor and go again with multiple tests. Just want to know....if this is withdrawal symptoms or anything else. Apart from that I do not have any other symptoms. please help me

I had the same symptoms as you about twenty years ago and the heavy headed feeling was from my Depression. I thought that I had a brain tumor as well but my problem was from the affective disorder and I eventually recovered through the use of medications and time. Don't listen to the non-medical experts who offer you misleading advice. The brain can produce these symptoms and I had to have a Brain CT, EEG, bloodwork, ENT referral, etc, before I eventually realized that my problem was a mental disorder. I never would have believed that this heavy head feeling could be from my Depression, and those who haven't experienced this should not be giving advice unless they are a trained diagnostician in this area. I do work in the Medical field but limit my advice to the area that I am trained in. Greenlydia gives advice but states that her advice is a "non-medical" opinion. She tells you to report your Psychiatrist to the Ethics board but she violates ethical principles by giving advice without being a provider of care herself. I hope that you begin to feel better and keep the faith because you will get better.

I really do not know...why i started again thinking all this brain tumor and other things. I was feeling very better and was doing very good while was taking 12.5 mg once in a week. then my doctor suggest me that this is the time you can quit from paxil and i did the same. I start feeling some heavy head ...and thought it is just a withdrwal so ignore that. But do bot know...why became anxious...and start looking in google for the symptoms. I heard that people take those medicines for many years...and never be able to quit. This is why i dont want medicines. I know I am hypocondriac which leads the anxiety...but how can I change my way of thinking. i am in India...and there i am not able to find any doctor who provide the CBT.

Thanks for your response. can you please let me know what is the correct way of tapper the dose. Yes but with the starting of 12.5 mg of dose i was doing very good.
I will visit to a doctor soon again...
I checked with an ENT a year before and everything was ok. if i go again on paxil ...u mean i will have to restart the whole process again? or now I can start a low dose...and then tapper?

I agree I think you are suffering from both withdrawals as well as perhaps some OCD. When we focus on one thing and it takes over all other thinking this is OCD behavior. Do not worry, you had the tests and they found no tumor. Some withdrawal symptoms make you think you are dying of something. This is a symptom of withdrawal. Find a better doc and get on a longer lasting benzo than taper when you are ready.

Not sure I have this right, so please correct me if I appear confused.
A year ago you had some dizziness and became afraid you had a brain tumor. You had a CT scan which proved you did not. You say your fear did not go away........how about the dizziness? Were you advised to see an EENT to make sure there was not an eye or an ear problem, both of which can cause diziness?

So you went to see a psychiatrist because you still had the fear of a brain tumor. I'm sure you told him the CT scan was clear. Did HE recommend you see an EENT to rule out all possible organic reasons for your dizziness? Did he just see your anxiety about the brain tumor and put you on Paxil?

I also do NOT understand why you were dosed like you were. The "average" dose for either anxiety or depression on Paxil is 20-50mg a day. EVERY DAY.
Here, in your own words, is the dosing schedule you were on for approximately a year......IF I am reading it correctly:

*12.5 mg daily basis for 2 months. then 1 tablet in two days for 1 month and so on. from last 2 months I was taking 1 tablet in a week. and was doing very good.*

Sorry for repeating this pretty much verbatim, but are you saying that you took about 1/2 of the normal starting dose for 2 months, then you took 1 tablet every other day for a month and then in the past two months you were only taking 1 tablet a week? Serious? Is this how your psychiatrist told you to take this medication?

You then write..................

*15 days back I quitted from paroxitine and in few days start feeling very heavy head. and now from 2 days feel headache.........*

Are you saying that approximately 15 days ago you simply stopped taking Paxil?
Apparently your psychiatrist forgot to tell you that you must NEVER just suddenly quit taking this type of medication. If he is the one who put you on that crazy dosing schedule, then this was his second rather huge error.

When you went back to consult with your psychiatrist about how you were feeling, he told you that the symptoms you were having "could NOT be withdrawal," and you should go see your doctor again.

In my humble and non-medical opinion, the first thing I'd do is run away from that quack of a psychiatrist you're seeing. I might even report him to the ethics board.
You say you don't want to go back to your doctor and start the tests all over again. I understand. But you do need to see a doctor about fixing the mess the psychiatrist has put you in. Again, in my humble and non-medical opinion, I believe you ARE going through withdrawal from the Paxil. In the PDR, (Physcians Desk Reference) it lists under "Withdrawal symptoms for Paxil...........headache, nausea, anxiety, vomiting, muscle pain, weakness and dizziness. NOT USUAL UNLESS PROCUCT DISCONTINUED ABRUPTLY."

You stopped abruptly. You are now having headaches and anxiety about a brain tumor again. What do YOU think the reason might be?

I think you need to get under a doctors care and possibly go back on the Paxil and under  a knowledgeable doctors supervision, taper off the drug correctly. Once you are off Paxil, if the dizziness is still a problem, you need your doctor to figure out why you're feeling dizzy. They probably won't have to repeat the scan, but even if they do, it's better than having pills thrown at you before they rule out a physical problem.
I wish you the best.
Peace
Greenlydia
