im so confused ={

ok im 21 and i have been told that i have anxiety and depression. along with my anxiety has come these really unwanted thoughts. for example i thought i was going to go crazy and end up in a mental hospital. well the thought i have been having lately wont seem to leave me alone. i have been with my fiance for 2 years now and i love him so much but i have been having like this neverending battle with my brain. my brain keeps telling me that i dont care anymore and that i dont love him and i hate it. i love him so much and i dont want to lose him. why does my brain keep telling me this??? i know in my heart he is who i want to be with so why is this happening to me?? is this just from the anxiety? i just started taking zoloft 25mg today, does anyone think that this medicine will help these thoughts go away? please help..

I believe that when those of us with anxiety/panic/depression experience an episode with racing thoughts, it's the nature of the beast for our minds to latch onto those thoughts which are extremely negative and frigtening. If our minds instead chose wonderful and happy thoughts, I don't think we'd all be gobbling pills and running to psychiatrists to make them stop. Hell, EVERYBODY would want anxiety then! LOL
I think that at some point in your relationship you probably asked yourself if you were sure this was the man for you. If you were sure you REALLY loved him. If you were sure you wanted to marry him. I think these questions are perfectly normal, healthy questions to ask ourselves when we've made such a huge commitment. You obviously answered these questions with a resounding "YES!" BUT..............somewhere in your mind, those questions are still there and anxiety (racing thoughts) will turn them into doubts rather than "asked and answered questions." This is just my theory and it's based only on my own experience with racing thoughts. When it use to happen to me, it felt like I'd let some horrid animal, (my mind) off its leash and the only thing it wanted to do was bite me. That bite didn't give me rabies, it gave me terrible racing thoughts and filled me with doubt about everything. My own sanity being a prime example.
I think, as the other posters have stated, that when the sertraline (Zoloft) reaches steady state in your blood, (+/-) one week, you will soon find these thoughts slowing down and eventually stopping altogether. For the time being, you just have to stay strong and believe that there is light at the end of your tunnel. Because there is!

Have you had your thyroid checked? That causes many people to feel like they are losing their mind.

I feel that once the medication starts to kick in you will feel alot better and more than likely these anxious, obsessive thoughts will calm down to.

Has anything happened to make you doubt him? Maybe yes you know that you love him but... maybe cause you are feeling vunerable right now it's your mind telling you that you don't to protect you from the possiablity of getting hurt.

However give the med's time and you should start to feel better shortly.
