If it works for you you should notice effects starting after about two weeks. But the build upI think can go on for longer like upto 4 weeks or even more.
Back when I was on sertraline, t took me about 6 weeks, but we started me very gradually.
We all react to medications differently, so there is no way to predict when you, personally, will begin to feel better. There are also different levels of feeling better that you will go through..........you want to know when you'll feel "alot better," and that question is even more unpredictible.
I am also on Zoloft and if I remember correctly, it was about a month before I noticed a slight lifting of my mood. After about 4 months on the same dosage, I didn't feel like I was getting any better, it was like I had reached a plateau and was "stuck" there. I still felt depressed so my doc upped the dose and a few weeks later, I began to notice my mood was much more positive. That was about a year ago, I never had to increase my dose again and in fact, my doc and I are talking about tapering down and see how I feel.
If you asked 10 people this same question, you'd get 10 different answers.
Having said that, I would say that if you haven't noticed ANY change in your mood within 6-8 weeks, you could probably discuss a dosage increase with your doctor at that point.
With antidepressants, the by-word is "patience!" You HAVE to give them time to reach therapeutic levels and that wait can be frustrating, I understand that, but these are not magic pills that will make you happy overnight.
Give them time to work for you.
Just hang tough, OK?
