Worrying about becoming addicted to anxiety medications is a sign that you need anxiety medications. My advice to you is that you take it as your doctor directed you to. I was very concerned when my doctor prescribed me lorazepam, and looked it up on the internet. This sent my anxiety through the roof because of all the "drugs are BAD" stuff that's out there regarding all prescription medications. I went back to the doctor and he prescribed me something else, and told me not to look it up on the internet, just read the warnings in the package and beyond that, see him if there's anything wrong. It helped enormously when I just took it like he told me to, no ill effects.
When I have anxiety/panic it is usually palpitations, racing thoughts, fear I am having a heart attack or will go nuts, nervousness, unable to relax, hyperventilation, focusing intensely on body symptoms, etc. Guess I have had anxiety all my life, but it spiraled out of control in 2003 when our son deployed to Iraq. Have had many ups and downs since then (not to mention I have become perimenopausal). Am tired and just want to have a 'normal' life.
