Insomnia from stress/anxiety

I have insomnia from stress, I think. Lately I only get a good sleep every other day. I have always been this way, but its worse now from the STRESS of being unemployed since Feb this year.

Since I am hypothyroid , I should avoid natural hormone based sleep aids like Melatonin, it can interfere with thyroid hormone meds. I should add, my thyriod levels are good its not that.

Tylonal PM makes me groggy the next day -not good. Cough syrup will make me sleep for 4 hours, then I wake.

What works good? There is to many on the store shelf. Lemon juice of all things, before bed seems to help some times.

Having a good job would help, but America is so messed up now , don't get me on that subject! These companies sending jobs over seas for short term greed are shooting themselves in the foot long term. Wake up corporate America! Being greedy is not Patriotic - (had to say it, because I'm right).

Thank you,
LM

I take thyroid medication (natural dessicated thyroid hormone to be exact), so I cant take Melatonin because its also a hormone and it can interfere. Wish I could though.

You can try Melatonin too, i forgot to tell you but it's first on my list for sleep aid. Melatonin is a hormone produced in the pineal gland that regulates the sleeping and waking cycle as well as related functions within the body.

You can read a bit on Melatonin it have so many benefits.

Hello there,

If natural sleep aids is what you are looking for you can try Valarian or Kava. You might also consider your diet. Eat magnesium-rich foods magnesium is a natural sedative. Deficiency of magnesium can result in difficulty sleeping, constipation, muscle tremors or cramps, anxiety, irritability, and pain. Here are some foods right in magnesium.

Raw brocolli, soy milk, nuts and peanuts, black beans, whole grains cereal, whole wheat bread, tofu, rockfish. And there are more you can try to search for magnesium rich food on the internet.

If you are looking for a less natural solution you can talk to your doctor about some benzodiazepines to take before you go to bed like Ativan.

Anyway please note that i'm not a doctor and i'm only giving you suggestions and you should consult your doctor.

Best regards,
M4
