Panic attacks- Implanon, Situational or Something else?

I have a family history of anxiety and depression and have, during times of extreme stress in the past, had similar symptoms that have resolved once the stress subsided. I started the birth control implant, Implanon, a few months ago and have had no issues but lately, with comparatively minor financial and emotional stress, have had a feeling of fear or dread. Sometimes it isn't strong but with small issues or problems it feels over whelming and almost like I can't breathe. I've had some times when I've felt like I turned off my emotions entirely just to not feel it. Is this just the implanon or is it more likely something genetic?

When I first had my implant put in I had lots of symptoms that my doctor diagnosed as depression - panic attacks, palpitations, extreme mood swings. I eventually found out that I had problems with my thyroid gland, this may or may not have been caused by the hormones released by the contraceptive implant.

Hi,
I would say that this sounds very much as though it is an anxiety attack. However, I would also consult your doctor and let him/her confirm that it is or isn't anxiety.  Try to take a deep breath and relax as much as possible. If you find this to be life threatening go to the ER.

Best of luck,
