Thx for reply,,,,ssris had run their course. Dr has me now on snris, not handling the feeling 'stoned' and staring into nothingness,,,,,,,,dunno which way to go now,,,,,,fed up of existing instead of living.....
Thx for reply,,was on ssris for 20+yrs......had run their course, PA's and Depres back.Dr strarted me on snris meds 6days ago and felt 'stoned',slept 15/17hrs day,and when awake could not stop staring. Probably all hit and miss with meds, however certainly do not like the idea of feeling like a 'test dummy'.......and ? contributing to new tyres for Dr's car.ha. Suppose have to go with it,,,,,,,,dunno. I am 63yr F and very tired of meds, side effects, group therupy etc......
Snris are more stimulating, so if anxiety is present in a big way they'll usually go with ssris. Also, since ssris are older, they have more history of use and side effects, and so docs will often go that way; some will even start with the tricylics for that reason over the ssris. They did with me. You also have the side effects and withdrawal problems, which some shrinks take into consideration and some don't. And then there are the docs, maybe most, who will recommend whatever the pharmaceutical companies are pushing now, which will be what was most recently patented and therefore more expensive.
SNRI's are used mostly, i have been told, when severe anxiety is present or SSRI's have proved intolerable. So they will proberly as a first line drug use an SSRI.
