Seroquel & Effexor

I suffer from sleep disorder and anxiety once in a while, i was taking xanax .5mg every night to be able to sleep but now I want to get completely off it.  I used to take regular ambien to get a good night rest and everything was fine and dandy.  one time I thought I was having freaking heart attack and I felt like bugs were crwaling in my skin, i went over to the E-Room and they told me that I had GAD, this is when Xanax came in to my life.  I stopped taking the ambien because the Xanax helped with the sleep.

This Wed I went to see my Dr. and he prescribed Seroquel and Effexor, now correct me if I am wrong, but in order to get off Xanax can't I just ween off of it and take half a pill until I come of of it.  I took the Seroquel last night & it was horrible, I woke up all loopy and couldn't concentrate; i felt like I was in a dream.  I decided to put the boat in the water to do some fishing and I couldn't even concentrate!  Has anyone taken Seroquel and Effexor at the same time, and if so what were the feelings youo experienced your first time.  Any inputs are greatly appreciated!

Hello. Yes I have, for almost 11 years. The first 5 years was great. Then after that not so great. Taking the combination (Seroquel and Effexor) causes Palpitations. I found this out the hard way. The first 5 years taking Seroquel and Effexor I slept well, think well, no more headaches/anxiety/depression. Then after that I had a very bad episode of Palpitations that landed me in the ER. It was so bad that my heart was beating irregularly every 5 seconds for 4 hours. I thought I was having a heart attack.

The last 5 years or more I've been having many more episodes of Palpitations. Doctors don't have any cure. I did the EKG, and wore Holter Monitor for 30 Days. All they can tell me is "It's normal to have Palpitations". Which is pathetic! No, it's not normal to have Palpitations! You're just too stupid to find the cure for me.

I made the appointment to see a different doctor to try other meds. I did my own research and found out taking Seroquel and Effexor together causes Palpitations.

no but I want to bump this thread up incase somone comes along who has. I may be mistaken, so please dont take this as anything more than anctedotal... but I had a friend in ark. who had a very strange reaction to a combination of Seroquel and atleast 2 other newer generation meds like this that effect brain chemistry. She got lost twiced while driving somewhere, an appt I think. Half way there she just completely forgot where she was or why she was there. Frightened her badly enough she called her husband to come get her.

If your having a strange reaction that feels very abnormal to you,, talk to your doctor as soon as possible and explain your reaction. If he just tries to up your dose... dont do it, seek a second opinion. If it doesnt feel right in your body theres a good chance its not right for your body. There may be something that can help if your willing to try them, but be proactive on this one.. it sounds like you are so its good to see.

*with much respect and apprication*
