Stress/anxiety- numbness

My daughter began having symptoms of numbness on the bottom of her feet two  years ago prior to exams and her highschool graduation.  Now in college the symptoms seem to worsen with each episode.  She called crying on a train the other night with numbness in feet, legs, arm and back.  She cannot feel them at all and are painful and her moble ability is hampered as she trips and falls.  All began prior to the previous weeks exams.  My daughter maintains a 4.0.  even with Tourettes which since a young age has and had to learn to focus (violin, piano).  I took her to a clinic and they have no clue.  With no insurance (single Mom, no support) I want to try to go to the correct doctor. Any ideas?  I feel the symptoms are definately brought on by stress and anxiety yet they are still physical symptoms.

Let me drill down on what she said, but first just say your love for your daughter, and hers for you are wonderfully evident and come what may -you two have each other. I admire you.

Now then: Your kids maintains a 4.0 and has musical talent. This means she has a faculty advisor who is keenly interested in her and probably regards her as a very gifted person, yes? Yes. And so, she goes to that advisor (if she trusts him/her) and lays out the problem. Her school, if not itself a university, is CONNECTED with some high powered institution and with a few phone calls, the advisor can get the names of people who either will see your daughter or knows who WILL. Worst case: the advisor routes her to the Dean of Students whose job it is to figure this stuff out. While youir daughter is to be valued simply as a human, she is also, I gather, the very kind of person her school WANTS to take care of; she is recognized as a real talent and excellent student.  So, get these people on your team. I don't know how much your kid is a "Mother, puleeze, I'd rather do it myself," kind of gal, but obviously her proclivities in that vein come into play. My point being that -as long as the 2 of you are of like mind- there is no intrinsic reason for you NOT to be involved.

I'm really sorry you are so stressed out right now, but I can certainly see why! You are hauling one hell of a load, as is your sweet daughter! I wish more than anything that I could give you the answer you so desperately need, but I'm afraid I can't. I hope someone else on this forum will have some ideas for you. Since your daughter is in college, would it be possible for her to go to the infirmary and seek help there? Surely they must know that students don't always have insurance or a rich parent at their beck and call. Maybe you could call the school and inquire about that? Guess all they can say is no. Another option is for you to take her to the ER. ALL emergency rooms, by LAW, cannot turn anyone away because of their lack of insurance or inability to pay. This does NOT mean that you're not going to get a bill. You will. But you can talk to the financial department and work out a payment plan YOU can work with. And don't let them bully you! If your daughter needs to see a specialist, there are people in the hospital who can help you with the financial aspect of this. It is their JOB! You could try calling your local Dept. of Health and Welfare and inquire about obtaining medical coupons. I think there are a number of options out there, some might be difficult to track down, but don't give up and use the resources at your disposal, like the hospital patient advocates.
