Xanax for fear of flights?

I got a super odd question.

I will be flying to Philippines in 2 days I normally have a MASSIVE fear of flights.

This time round, I anticipate my fear of flights will go crazy because I will be going on an OLD aircraft (A340 model, possibly around 20 years old plane!)

So how am I to stop this fear? Can i take Xanax? I checked with my insurance provider, and they say I can claim for Xanax, so looks like I can get a psychiatrist to dispense some for me.

If you're going to try a benzo, and they can be really good short-term help for anxiety and pretty safe if you only take it once in a while, but addictive if you take it regularly, try it before you fly.  Different people react differently to different meds.  There are a lot of benzos, but you want to use one that actually works.  You should also know that most of the planes you fly in are very old -- they have a very long shelf life.

You can try hypnosis to deal with fear of flying. It helps the process if you read up on medical hypnosis, because you will be more accepting of it.
One session 20 years ago worked for me, because I had prepped with the book.
