paxil withdrawal difficulties

ive been on paxil for over ten years every time i tried to come off i was told i was clinically depressed and go back on it now im actually realising ive been fed a lie this year since jan ive got done to 5mg but im not functioning i dont want to go back to incr dosage but wonder how long symptoms will last i want to get off so bad now as before i just thought i needed to be on it

thanks for thoughtful reply ...heres the update.....on 28 th sept i totallyy quit ..i started taking 1 proxan healtheries product each day , im now i week drug free and stable praise god. no sign of any underlying depression. so whats happened to that then mr local GP!!! im changing gp for any future needs.

This is one of the most difficult to quit taking, so take it as slowly as you need to.  Because you've been on it a long time, it will take your body a longer time to adjust to not having the drug in the system and learning how to function normally again.  On the other hand, if you never did resolve the problem that led you to take the Paxil in the first place, it may very well still be there.  I suggest a book called The Anti-Depressant Solution by Joseph Glanville, which discusses protocols for withdrawing and also discusses when it's time to quit a med.  As to recovery time, it's different for everyone.  Some swim through it, some don't.  There's no general rule that will apply to you.
