hypnotist for anxiety? anyone ever try it? one is moving in right next to my business haha.

i'm  just wondering if anyone has tried hyno therapy with a trained perfessional? for anxiety/panic? a friend got it done for smoking and just straight up quit...she started again on purpose years later, she said when she started again she had to actually force herself to to do it and it made her sick for the first few times. one just might be starting a practice next to my office, with group therapy and therapists also. like a bunch of them here....haha shrinks right next store....what a great thing for an agoraphobic haha. any comments or experiences would be greatly appreciated. thanks...

You got it Jay,  This guy was certified, and to this day still doctoring believe it or not.  There is some of his patients that have claimed that he has helped them.  OK, Whatever. Like I say, I can still look back and get a good laugh about it.

Let me know if you do this.

i think maybe you found the wrong guy haha. that does sound really out there. lol haha i would probably start rolling too if a guy told me that....i think a real hypnotherapist would explain what he's going to do before he regresses LOL you back to the woumb. i think now they work on certain aspects. like driving....being in crowds etc....the subconcious always wins when it's in conflict with the conscious mind. i can see how it can help. i don't think it is a miracle cure, but i can sure see the science behind it. reprogramming your thinking, negative thinking and wrong core beliefs is the core to all CBT therapy. the guy i'm talking about is a CBT therapist and uses the hypnosis as an adjunct to all the other methods in CBT.

lol the grunt and moan guy not sure about his methods....sounds like a snake oil salesman....pop psychology....makes me wonder how people like that got his license to practice this stuff. or was this at a carnival or circus? haha sounds like he belongs in one anyway haha

later....Jay

This thread has brought back some memories..  15 years ago I was seeing a hypnotherapist who wanted to put me "under his spell" that's what I call it anyway. So I sat in the chair and he did some really strange noises with his throat and started to moan, I then just burst out laughing, what the H***, He got a little angry with me, But, what he told me was that my problem started during my birth, coming through the birth canel and he was taking me back to that moment by making these noises ( the same as what my mother made while birthing me)  Needless to say, I was out of there and never returned, cost me 200.00, but the laugh was well worth it.

So beware.......

Hi, I tried hypnotherapy and it did help me alot, I went about 6 times and got a tape each time, that was 5 years ago and i still listen to the tapes every day, they seem to help me sleep, although I will say that if I am really bad they dont seem to do alot as the stress seems to overide everything, its worth a try though. I often think I should go again but its expensive and I cant afford it at the moment. Good Luck

this guy is a certified CBT therapist and also does hypnosis therapy for PTSD, anxiety, panic, depresson, smoking,  drug and alcohol dependence issues etc... i'm talking about actually being hypnotized not a tape. i want something geared towards my specific phobias. driving and  some of the negative thoughts i have. if it works 10% then it's worth it cuz i'm about 60% back to normal, some days 70%, i can see how it can work, i have done self hypnosis on myself for my driving fear. i only did it a few times and just on the stretch from my house to work and i have hardly no anxiety when doing this now...and how about this, there is MASSIVE construction inbetween my house and my office and sometimes i have to sit in traffice for like a few minutes. i get a tad edgy, but nothing i can't handle. just hard for me to do alot of the self hypnosis because i'm pretty much ADD and have all kinds of thoughts. so really really have to concentrate and when i do that i fall asleep haha. i think the klonopin might have something to do with that. i am driving somewhat better now. i drive to my therapists office once a week. it's about 10 min. from my house, i have a tad of anxiety doing that on the way there, but on the way back i'm fine. progress not perfection...better than being stuck at my moms afraid to leave the house last summer!!!!

starr28,

with you it seems she made you a relaxation tape like the one that comes with lucinda bassett's program....let me guess, muscle relation...deep breathing. affirmations (you are calm, you are relaxed) and maybe some guided imagry (you are on the beach or by a waterfall, you hear the water and birds etc..)? sounds about right?

id' like to hear more commnets if anyone else has had any experience with hypnosis for anxiety/panic etc....

as always...God Bless.....Jay

Hi,

I went to a hypnotist when I first was diagnosed with depression because
my anxiety level was so high I couldnt sleep for days on end.  She made me
a tape to listen to at night to help me relax and hopefully get to sleep.  I
really dont think it did anything for me but hopefully it will work for you.  Everyone
responds differnetly.

Best wishes,
starr28

Why not give it a shot?  Can't hurt.  The worst thing to happen is it won't work.  I would try anything at this point.  Wish they were near me.  LoL.  Try it and keep us updated. God Bless.
