i space out when talking to people

I get so nervous when talking to people sometimes that I kind of feel as though I'm having some sort of depersonalization. It's hard to explain but whenever I'm at work and I have to talk to one of my customers I can get so nervous that I can't concentrate on what they're saying. I then space out, and my thoughts begin rushing. When this happens I sort of lose myself within the sensation and I try to grasp what's going on, but I'm quickly overwhelmed with pure fear. I know people can see this, because I can see their expressions, they think I'm weird, and something is wrong with me. Please!! Is this anxiety?!

As remar said, it does sound like a form of generalized (social) anxiety and it can be treated and controlled quite easily. Talk to your doctor, there is help out there and no reason for you to continue feeling this way.
Get the help you need and get your life back.

It does sound like anxiety. I've done this myself many times.
Try to take a few deep breaths or excuse yourself for a minute.
Counseling would probably be a big help to you. Take care. Remar
