prozac dose

I was on 10 mg of prozac for a month and I felt much better. I still had occasional attacks so my Dr upped my dose to 20 mg. Now I feel tired and nauseous all day. Can I just go back to 10 mg today? I still have them left from before she upped my dose. I don't want to feel sick all day again.

We can't tell you to change your medication in any way. Call your doctor and discuss this with her. She may have increased your dose too soon. You were only on the 10mg for a month and it can take up to 4 weeks (or longer) for Prozac to reach therapeutic levels. It is not uncommon to have some breakthrough or even increased episoids when starting a new medication. In my humble and non-medical opinion, I think your doctor should have told you to give it a little more time and added a mild antianxiety medication to be taken, AS NEEDED, until the Prozac kicked in. At 6-8 weeks, an eval to see where you were with the treatment would have been a more prudent approach than throwing another 10mg at you.
When dealing with psych meds, patience is a must. It can take time to find the right one and the right dose.
Don't give up, just keep in close contact with your doctor, and please, do NOT begin to self-medicate.
You'll be fine.
Peace
