I am on zoloft 50mg once a day, and i have just increased it to 50 Wed because i am 5 1/2 months pregnant with severe anxiety. now i have these really scary thoughts about not being able to take care good care of my newborn when she gets here. Its eating me up inside. I am goi ng to see a therapist tommorrow but i was just curious if this is a side effect of the Zoloft? BTW- the fear, the heart palpitations etc have gone away, its just these freakin thoughts that are killing me :(   i just cant even fdathom not being able to take care of my little one :(

I was not on zoloft but I was on Paxil for three pregnancies and my children had no issues at all.
When you give birth you will know exactly what to do and those thoughts will disappear. Even moms without anxiety have similar thoughts. You will be so filled with love and joy that those thoughts wont even cross your mind.
You can do it! Congratulations and keep in touch

I took 50mg zoloft when i was pregnant, my daughter is fine, I became very phobic about being alone with my babies, my husband and i switched rolls, he stayed home, i worked. that worked out well for us. Poor but know whose hands our kids were in ")

Thanks so much for your feedback gladly appreciated! However i actually stopped taking the Zoloft because i was actually having suicidal thoughts.. I know very scary!! i was advised by the OB to stop taking them. I am actually feeling alot better i do have an appt with a Psychiatrist because i really want to be able to be completely sane and healthy for my baby, i want to devote all my time to her its only natural, but to do that i have to get better. It ***** because i feel like i am crazy and def loosing it but i know i am not. This is my first pregnancy; hopefully in the future if i decide to have more children this will be a thing of the past.

So, ah.........exactly how much Zoloft are you on?
I trust your OB/GYN is aware of you being on Zoloft and that it was he/she who OK'd the increased dose.
It's good you'll be seeing your therapist because your fears, while not totally irrational, especially if this is your first child, are edging towards being phobic and are increasing your anxiety and stress. Bad for you=Bad for baby.
I'm not exactly sure what you are concerned about when you ask ........"I was just curious if this was a side effect of Zoloft?" Were you wondering if scary thoughts about being able to take care of your baby were side effects? If that is truly what you were asking, the answer is no. Zoloft would not make you question yourself like that, but your stress and anxiety certainly would.
As first time mothers we all have concerns and fears about our abilities to take care of our babies. That is very normal. But like the rest of us, you will learn as you go. It really is "on the job training!"
It's sounds to me like you could use some support and reassurance. Talk to your OB, the pediatrician you've chosen or the hospital at which you plan to have your baby, any one of these should be able to point you towards new mother support groups. Do you have friends or family you can talk to?
Please don't forget to check out all of our baby forums right here! You will get so much advice and support, I think it would be really good for you to strike up some friendships now, so you'll have other women you trust to contact once the baby arrives.
There is no reason to think you won't be able to take great care of your baby. I think you're freaking yourself out.
Go to the baby forums!
Peace
