what could help me?

I have been having these attacks for a while now and doctors try to keep giving me meds but it doesn't work. The doctor just says its anxiety and just pushes me out the door with a new prescription. A little bit about me I have been diagnosed with bipolar 2 and have always had anxiety attacks (but not like this) i also have optic neuropothy from something that happened to me when i was a small baby. Usually my attacks consist of fast breathing and my muscles tighten and then it sends me into the attack but i can usually calm myself within a few minutes. Lately it has been feeling like my heart is going to pound out of my chest, not fast, but just really hard. I live in a place that it gets over 100° so the ac is always on and any cold sends me into an attack. My heart has been pounding like his constantly for the last 3 weeks and i'm having trouble sleeping and the pounding makes my bipolar act up because my mind doesn't know what to make of it. At night I will wake up about a hour after i fall asleep and be in middle of an attack and cant go back to sleep. I have been to the emergency room twice and they pretty much just roll their eyes and move me along and say its just anxiety. They have said that my heart beat is irregular but everything else of the basic steps they go over is fine. They have given me 0.5 mg Xanax, and 0.5mg Atavan. About 6 months ago i was prescribed 5mg Zyprexa but only took it for about 2 weeks and the doctor said what i'm feeling now could just be the side effects but that it was weird if that drug was still in my system. The xanax was the most effective but barely worked and i had to keep taking them. Now that i have the atavan it doesn't help much and in the last few days have started taking 500mg kava kava too and the kava kava is helping.. not a lot but atleast its something! The attacks come out of nowhere and ill be in middle of trying to work and i have to drop what i'm doing and try to calm myself down but it never works so i just get frustrated. I feel horrible because i'm putting my girlfriend through a lot of **** that she doesn't need because she has bad anxiety herself and its taking a toll on her too. I just really need help to figure out what is going on because my doctors aren't helping. Any suggestions? I'm willing to go see my doctor again but would like something to tell him to get him off of thinking he can just shove me out with an anxiety prescription.

Hello, Iwas just reading up on your history:
Anxiety, Bipolar diagnosis, rapid heart rate, pounding heart, poor sleep, are all signs and symptoms of Magnesium deficency. This might be new info to you.. In these days where our food is no longer nutrtious, 80 % of the population is suffering from Mg deficiency without knowing it. Frequently undiagnosed by the medical community.
. My suggestion would be for you to read up on Magnesium Deficiency, learn about whys and how.. then it and take Magnesium supplements, the relaxation mineral. Not a lot of people know about Magnesium yet but I am trying to make it be known. It will help you out. This is safe to take, healthier and our body needs it.
Best to take instead of medications eventually.
Here is a Pub Med info on Curing Depression / Anxiety, etc. by Magnesium supplementation. You and your girlfriend could both use it..
Mg Glycinate in one of the best absorbable form of Mg, inexpensive  at $4.00 / bottle of 90 caps. .

For FYI
Rapid recovery from major depression using magnesium treatment.
From PubMed

Major depression is a mood disorder characterized by a sense of inadequacy, despondency, decreased activity, pessimism and sadness where these symptoms severely disrupt and adversely affect the person's life. Antidepressant drugs are not always effective and some have been accused of causing an increased number of suicides particularly in young people.

Magnesium deficiency is well known to produce neuropathologies. Only 16% of the magnesium found in whole wheat remains in refined flour, and magnesium has been removed from most drinking water supplies, setting a stage for human magnesium deficiency. In magnesium deficiency, neuronal (BRAIN) requirements for magnesium may not be met, causing neuronal damage which could manifest as depression. Magnesium treatment is hypothesized to be effective in treating major depression . These magnesium neuronal deficits may be induced by stress hormones, excessive dietary calcium as well as dietary deficiencies of magnesium.

Case histories are presented showing rapid recovery (less than 7 days) from major depression using 125-300 mg of magnesium (as Mg glycinate or Mg taurinate) with each meal and at bedtime.

Magnesium was found usually effective for treatment of depression in general use. Related and accompanying illnesses in these case histories including traumatic brain injury, headache, suicidal ideation, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, postpartum depression, cocaine, alcohol and tobacco abuse, hypersensitivity to calcium, short-term memory loss and IQ loss were also benefited.

Dietary deficiencies of magnesium, coupled with excess calcium and stress may cause many cases of other related symptoms including agitation, anxiety, irritability, confusion, sleeplessness, headache, delirium, hallucinations and hyperexcitability, with each of these having been previously documented.

The possibility that magnesium deficiency is the cause of most major depression and related mental health problems including IQ loss and addiction is enormously important to public health and is recommended for immediate further study. Fortifying refined grain and drinking water with biologically available magnesium to pre-twentieth century levels is recommended.

Read more/ check out You tube on Mg deficiency. learn more so you'd understand all about your health situation. Bipolar diagnosis might as well be called Mg deficiency instead.. that's what they say in the Mg Books.

I agree with Paxiled. You really need to find a good psychiatrist to treat you. If you did well on Zyprexa and you do indeed need it then you may be able to get the company that makes it help you with the cost. Your Dr would most likely need to fill out some paper work for you.

Bipolar 2 isn't really bipolar, it's just a form of depression, but you're not being treated for depression and you only complain about anxiety.  So are you depressed or not?  If depression is your main problem with anxiety secondary to it, then if you want to use medication you'll need an antidepressant, such as an ssri.  If you want to go the natural route, you'll still need to add an antidepressant and adrenal support to the kava.  Bipolar 2 is a diagnosis invented by pharmaceutical companies, so don't get hung up on the label -- only true bipolar requires antipsychotics.  It's also way overdiagnosed, so remember, it's just a garden variety of depression.  You really should see a good psychiatrist to discuss this, because it sounds like you're just seeing a general doc and they're not that experienced with this stuff, or a naturopath or psychiatrist who practices integrated medicine or naturopath if the natural stuff works better for you.  Good luck.

Are you taking any meds for the bi-polar? If not, this really needs to be addressed. I would also recommend counseling if you're not already doing that.
