Cancer Recurrence

I had a double masectomy 1-1/2 years ago and have finished chemo treatments in April of 08 and now I am on Femara for about a year. My question is can I get a recurrence of cancer of some sort (i know it won't be breast) while I'm actually still using Femara?

I'm actually going to Moffitt cancer Center Thursday but I've been under the impression I'm "good" and no need to worry. But I've been having diarrhea for the last 8 months. I can't eat without going to the bathroom. But I'm gaining wieght. My stomach has started swellinging and I'm now having pains in my ovaries and stomach. I've been post Menopausal for 2 years so I don't know why my ovaries would hurt.

I was tested HER2 positive I think that was it.Anyway, I remember being told I wouldn't have to have chemo and radiation if I had the double M but when test came back they said I was HER2 and that meant they needed to give chemo to be safe.
I talked to my oncologist about the diarrhea but he writes everythig off as the Femara. So I just didnt' take any of my symptoms as anything to worry about until lately when I started having the pains. Then I read somewhere if you have had Breast Cancer you had a easier chance of getting ovarian. I guess that is why I wrote here hoping someone might have had the same symptoms and maybe tell me "its all the femara" :) Or if its ovarian then I can prepare before going Thursday.  (its the waiting when you don't know that bothers me, I can deal with truth good or bad.)

Thanks for being kind and letting me unload.

Hi again,
I had posted my reply when you were on the OVCA forum, I guess you were bumped over to the breast cancer forum, where I'm sure the ladies can give you better advice.

I'm so sorry for what you've had to go through, it had to have been so difficult for you.I wish you good health.

That's really a question to ask your oncologist, we're ladies who have OVCA and give each other support, and the benefit of our experience with this disease.

It's best that you call the specialist you've been dealing with, who prescribed Femara and get a professional opinion.

Have you had the BRCA gene mutation tests done?
I'm positive for BRCA 2 and have a high chance of developing breast cancer in addition to the OVCA I'm dealing with now. It will be a new cancer, not a spread of my cancer.
Call your doctor, the question you posed is obviously something that's on your mind.
Good luck to you,
Jane
