New kitty w/diarrhea

We found a stray kitten beside a busy road 2 nights ago, so small and frail.  The next day (yesterday) we took it to the vet.  Fortunately he's neg. for feline aids/leuk.  He was given a shot and worm medication.  We then put out both wet and dry kitten food, just hoping it would eat something.  He has eaten some of both, but def. more wet than dry.  He will drink some water too, but does not play whatsoever, and sleeps a lot. The vet thinks he's around 11-12 weeks old.  The concern has been that the poor baby has terrible diarrhea, numerous times today and several times last night, and of course the vet is closed.
The stool is orange color, much like the wet food, and stinks worse than anything you could imagine.  You can sometimes hear the babies tummy grumbling while pooping.  From what I've read it could be the new medicine, the new food and of course the shock from all of this, and the poor thing wasn't in great shape to start with. I haven't let him out of my sight.   I would love some advice on where to go from here.  My heart goes out to this angel.  He hasn't had a great life so far....would love to change that!

Thanks so much!

Looks like you have everything under control!  Samson is in good hands.

We expect photo's of our most recent addition. I bet before and after will be amazing.

Once he has his energy back you won't be able to stop with the playing. He just wants his new mommy right now. Lucky little man!!

All the Best!

Update.  Had to take Samson to the e/r today, had bloody stools.  Now dx with coccidia (sp?).  On new meds, and has to be quarantined the next 2 weeks.  Please say your prayers.  I also pray/hope that my sweet Pom did not contract it.  Will try posting pics soon.

I just tried that with no luck, may be something with my work computer.  Just states "submitting" and sits there turning and doing nothing!

We had 2 pics of him from the first night- one showing an open wound on his nose and the 2nd showing how frail, with hair so dirty/greasy it stood out like a porcupine and with a tied/knotted rope around his neck.  I have no idea about the rope, but it was certainly disturbing!

I will try to work out something on the photos.

Morning!   Just an update, still upset tummy, but still eating!  Mom on the other hand is worn out!   Did I tell you my small pom (dog) ate a can of wet kitty food when I wasn't looking Saturday?  Well that didn't go so well.  She woke me up hopping on my chest at 3:30 am Sunday morning, and left a nice little soft mess of her own on the coverlet.  So had to get up and deal with that.  Never got back to sleep, still worried over little Samson, who was sleeping next to me until that lovely wake up call.

Last night I was woken by a tick- yes a tick- crawling on my arm.  Had to come from the new kitten, despite bathing him Saturday and checking.  According to vet he can't have the flea/tick medicine put on till he is feeling better- 3-5 days after his shot Friday.   Calling them this morning regarding the big D, which hasn't left.

Tried to post pics this morning, but that too is not going so well, maybe it's tired like me!  Just kept sitting there stating uploading, and nothing else.  Any clues there?

I need someone to bathe, feed me, and put me in a warm bed to make sure I get some rest!!  I need rescued!

Such great news.  He must know the rice will help him.

Thank you, will post a pic tomorrow.  He sure is eating today, so provided it's not some parasite or other problem, I think the big d should be on the way out.  And once that's handled, I think he will put on some much needed weight.  I hope the worst is over!  I foresee having to wean this baby off the rice diet though, seems to love it!  That and laying on a low heat warming pad!  Have a great day all!
