Stomach Problem in Cat (IBD, allergies, or too much bacteria?)

Hi there!

One of our cats has been having the following symptoms for the past few months:
- weight loss
- gurgling stomach
- protruded stomach (from gas, it seems, but it goes away once she uses the litter box)
- ravenous appetite
- soft stools
- violent vomiting (she expels everything she's eaten, but this may occur once a week or so; it's not a daily or regular occurrence)
- less energetic

She will be 10 this July.  We have taken her to our vet several times, and for many weeks, they were giving her B-12 shots.  We have also been giving her antibiotics (prescribed by the vet), which seems to make her stool a bit more firm, but it remains very soft.

Doing research online has led us to believe she could have food allergies, IBD, or too much bacteria in her small intestine.

We have been feeding her wet food (she keeps that down more than dry food), but she will still vomit it up (not as much as when she ate nothing but dry).  The wet food isn't grain/gluten free, though, so maybe that's why it still makes her sick (but not as often as the dry food).

hi...she could well have a strong sensitivity to some ingredient in her diet, the culprits are usually always GRAINS....I would strongly suggest you find a good grain free canned diet to gradually switch her on and see if it helps.

however the other signs, weight loss despite ravenous appetite and the vomiting are very alarming. has your Vet not taken a thyroid T4 test for hyperthyroidism?
the symptoms sound very much like HyperT. I will send you a site to read on...be sure when you get to the bottom to click on page 2, goes up to page 4...but the arrows are so far down its easy to miss.

good luck:))
