Please Suggest me with my lipid profile.

I'm 38 years old male, 76 kg (167lb) weight and 5ft 4inches height. I did lipid profile test and following are the numbers

Total Cholesterol 242
Triglyceride         254
HDL Cholesterol  38
LDL Cholesterol   153.2
VLDL Cholesterol 50.8
Total Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol Ratio 6.3
LDL Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol Ratio 4.0

My doctor suggested me to take medication Aztor 10mg per day, I asked my doctor if it comes down to optimum level by lifestyle modification? Please suggest me, do I need to start the medications or wait for some months and check the profile again after lifestyle modification and healthy diet? Is my lipid profile reading at very risky level?

Please don't avoid statins, if you are in need of them. My husband did the same thing..turned to herbs and tryed to eat right. The Dr. has told him for years he needs to be on medication.
A year and half he had a major stroke. His arteries in his brain were so clogged with fat and cholesterol. If he had of got on medication like the dr. advised him to, he may not of had this major stroke. He also had to have a quad. bypass a few years ago.  please be careful.

I am 50, ht 5'4", wt 70kg. On May 30, 2013 I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. Total cholesterol 288 (normal range 125-225) and LDL cholesterol 184 (normal range 85-150). I avoided Statins coz when I researched the net I discovered that people complained about its severe side effects. I made a decoction of some fresh herbal leaves and had a glass of this decoctikon daily morning for 21 days (6th June to 26th June). I made no changes in my lifestyle which involves sitting at the PC for 14 hrs a day. I am a vegetarian n love food, so continued my normal diet, only cut down on fried food, potato and butter. After 21 days of treatment, my blood test shows: Total cholesterol 139 (down from 288 = 52% drop), LDL cholesterol 53 (down from 184 = 71% drop). My VLDL and triglyecrides too dropped by 28% each and blood sugar by 16%. Wt also went down from 73kg to 70kg and knocked off 2 inches from the waist all thanks to this herbal decoction. This is nothing short of amazing. Next mth I will be trying a separate herbal treatment specifically for lowering triglycerides and will post an update. Btw, I am NOT a medico.
