Allergy to composite resin

Has anyone ever experienced a systemic allergy to composite fillings?  Since I had all my mercury fillings removed (by a qualified specialist) and only when I started refilling the teeth with composite resins did I begin to experience itching (a feeling coming from the inside, out).  I had temporary fillings before the permanent ones and those were fine.  When I first had the composite fillings applied, I experienced some sensitivity in certain teeth which my dentist redid and used a protective layer before refilling the teeth.  For about 3 months now I've had to take an antihistamine tablet every other day because the itching keeps returning.  I have ruled out food, chemical and environmental allergies and have been told by a gynecologist that this type of allergy is not due to hormones.  I've asked my dentist if there is any test I can do but he doesn't know of any and I am considering consulting an allergist but I would like to know if anyone out there has ever experienced this and what you've done.

The allergy could be from another source but it seems too coincidental that the itching first appeared after placing the composite resin fillings.

HELP!!

Hello from Slovenia-EU,

Here is my story if someone needs information about titanium implants.
I become very ill 8 years ago. My life was like vegetation. I researched around all Europe and USA to found doctor or person who can help me.
After 3 years when I totally exchange my lifestyle I found reason for my problems, It vas silver fillings. After 2 years extreme detoxify – I am lucky that I had support from Dr. Andrew Cutler, one of the best doctor in the world for amalgam detoxify – I got 50 % of my life and my health back. But not all.  First I thought that maybe my body is damaged from 15 years of 7 amalgams filling. Than I was shocked when I got information about titanium problems. I had 3 titanium implants with 5 zirconium teeth on. Doctors in my country have told me that titanium is not case for my problems. At that time my problem was:
headache, sinusitis, bleeding gums, pain in the left hand - side where they were implants, problems with vision, problems with memory, great fatigue, without energy, pain in the area of implants, gastro problems. Doctors in my country said that they can’t take out titanium implants safety and that I will have problems with bone after operation. But I investigate a lot again and I got a lot of information from all the world. Some information was useful some not like in every case. But I had lucky again and I got contact about Dr. Shumantov. In my health story I met more that 300 doctors from around the world but I can say that Dr. Shumantov is one of the best doctor and person which I know. He operates in USA and couple of time every year at Europe. I decided that I go to Sofia where he operates in Europe. I was very happy with his professionalism. He told me everything about titanium and what he will do, before operation and I was shocked how easy he removed 3 titanium implants with reverse system. All 3 implants took out in 40 minutes. After that he put new bone material and I come every day to control. After 7 days I go back to my country. Now after 8 month I can tell you: My only mistake was that because of my scary what doctor in Slovenia said, I didn’t take titanium implants out before. In the meantime they disappeared almost everyone my problems which I had before that operation. No headache, no sinusitis, no bleeding gums, no pain in the left hand - side where they were implants, no problems with vision, no pain in the area of implants. It is truth that I still have some energy and tired problems but I think that my body after all problems with amalgam and titanium need more time to recover. Maybe some problems will stay but  8 year ago my life was vegetation; today I got 80 % my life back and totally new way of life. My next part of operation is put zirconium implants in. My story was broadcast on Slovenian TV. I wish that all of you can solve problems with health and especially with teeth. And believe me: Dentist can destroy your life. If you wish more information and contact of Dr. Shumantov you can contact me.

Igor, thank you so much for this information.  It is very brave of you and I will be actually passing on this information to a good friend of mine who is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis from what I believe is systemic toxicity from a titanium implant allergy.  Thank you again for sharing your story.  I hope all is well with you.  :::hugs:::

I know this topic is old but I am extremely scared and desperate by this point, Dentists see nothing wrong with the tooth though my oral health is in the decline.. My overall health is actually, This all started 5 months ago when I had fillings done. If anyone has a list of symptoms from dental resin reaction or allergy? That would be amazing thank you in advance. That is if anyone reads this. I would list all I have been through but its a pretty large list of things. If it will help at all however, I will list it.

hi James.I forgot all about my post here.I am not sure about fillings ,but part of my prob turned out to be silent reflux. The awful bacteria is landing around my molar and tongue on RH side.using ranitadine-
please do list problems!some of mine were chills/no energy/feeling sick/food makes worse
My symptoms include "peeling" of the skin on the inside of both my cheeks, burning tongue and overall mouth sensitivity. It's been going on for three years now and I'm at the end of my rope. It hasn't gotten worse in three years, but it also hasn't gotten better

I had some bonding work done on my upper front teeth, Scotch bond then composite.  The following day I awoke to a coughing fit, which continued, pounding headache, sore throat, and an extreme chemical/bitter taste.  After a month I also developed, joint pain, hormonal issues and intermittent numbness and pins and needles on my upper lip.
I had the bonding replaced with a different composite, this time with one that I had used in the past without a problem. But I gained no improvement from my symptoms.
Had the material removed, and gained some improvement, had nothing on my teeth for a few weeks.
I had the bonding replaced for the third time, with a composite that is considered to be one of the most inert composites for individuals who are sensitive. I felt confident that this would be the last of it. But unfortunately, all my symptoms returned, plus, alternating very dry mouth, then lots of excess saliva, to the point I need a towel on my pillow!
I did the Clifford’s test for compatibility to dental materials, which found all dental composites to be unsuitable, apart from two. I was told my case was most peculiar.
Had the third composite drilled off, with loss of enamel to front teeth, but I still have symptoms.
I believe the Scotchbond adhesive is my problem; I am getting sustained and continual exposure to this material. It encases the face and reverse of my front teeth. I think it has left me sensitised to other dental materials, if I could get rid of this, maybe my reaction to composites would settle down.
I was referred to specialist consultant, who told me, that he could see no adhesive on my teeth. But I know my teeth, and I can see, feel and taste it. He also told me, that adhesive wouldn’t stay on teeth for this long.  Although his advice conflicts with what I have read about set adhesive been extremely difficult to remove. All he could offer was drugs to halt excess saliva!
I am at a complete loss, what to do, I need to remove residual adhesive, which is hard to distinguish from enamel and then repair my damaged teeth............

I have same issue with same Scotchbond universal. I was lucky i have restoration on top. They removed all composite and most adhesive. 2 month without filling on tooth, hurt little bit. Every day better and better. That nasty toxic sheet going out little by little.
What i can do later, if i need to put new filling what adhesive I can use safely, or just pull a tooth.

According to the article I've linked below, it seems that the reason why many of you are feeling worse after replacing amalgams with composite resins is not because of the composite resins themselves but perhaps instead from improper removal of the amalgam.  If amalgam fillings are removed improperly there can be a high level of exposure of mercury to the body, therefore poisoning you and making you feel even worse.  Seems logical to me, It's all in here...   http://www.qnhshop.com/images/QNH/dental/Making%20the%20Right%20Dental.pdf

Even if amalgam removed improper way, all mercury intoxication will be gone in month or two. Problems with composite linked to adhesive they use to glue composite to tooth.

I got a terrible burn on the roof of my mouth when my dentist added acrylic to my denture and held it against the roof of my mouth. The longer he kept it there the hotter it got. He said it had something to do with the polymer. What would cause a pretty severe burn like this?
