Is this cheilitis?

This has been going on for nearly three weeks.  I went to the doctor and he said cold sores, which I was skeptical of, but I accepted that treatment.  But even he said the "cold sores" were presenting strangely.  None of the sores ever blistered. My lips did get pretty sunburned this summer, about two months ago. I start teaching in a week and would like my mouth to be a little less painful.  Any ideas for treatment?
