When will i see results?

I have made goals for myself the past 2 weeks. I want to lose 20 lbs by the end of April. I have been working out and watching what i eat. I stopped drinking pop to. And its *****! I feel so much better as far as energy goes. But i miss my mountain dew! I have been working out everynight. My workout consists of 10 or 1 mile on the bike which ever comes first, and the same running/jogging on the treadmill. And then doing the weight circuit at my local gym. I feel like im working my butt off yet the machines only say i have burned like 50 calories! And last night i got on the scale and weighed myself for the first time and i about started to cry! I cant be THAT big! Im just frustrated and want to know how long its gonna take for me to see results and if im doing the right things? What can i improve on?

Everyone has pretty much said it all.  Have you calculated how many calories you need each day?  What kinds of things are you eating?  Are you eating lots of protein, fiber, etc?  Are you watching your portion sizes?  Do you keep a food journal?  It's very helpful to keep track of what you eat; even though you think you are eating well, you might be eating too many calories, not enough calories, too large portions, etc.  There are some great web sites for setting up food journal and tracking calories (spark people and live strong are 2).  And don't forget to use the exercise and weight trackers here on MedHelp.

Have you checked to make sure that you don't have health related issues that might prevent weight loss?

Trying adding more resistance or incline to your treadmill/bike.  Mix up your workout a little.  Try doing a different machine at the gym like the elliptical.  That definitely will burn more calories than the treadmill or bike.

Twehner is right you do sound motivated so thats a great start!! Also yes need more info on what else you are doing to reach your goal. My goal is also 20lbs, I started in November and i am down 11 lbs so far!! I was hoping to make March my goal at least thats what i put in my tracker!! It just takes time you have to start slow and make a goal for that week not 2 wks not 1 month but try to say ok i am going to lose the 1.5 lbs this week!! Look at it that way its much easier, i did that and each week  i would see it go down lil by lil buts its great when u do start getting closer to ur goal!! I know the frustrating feeling too of Oh i cant be that big and im not saying you are but i said that too and as i started losing the weight and seeing my clothes are fitting again and looking at b4 pics i realized i was that big and i was ashamed for letting myself go so much!! I'm not saying nothing bad just dont think about it, admit you need to lose a few lbs dont be harsh on urself and just move forward each day is new and you will make your goal!!

From what I can tell, your goal sounds reasonable - but I really don't have enough information.  Are you eating enough?  Is it healthy?  Are you working out too much, too soon?  Do you vary your workouts?  Are you doing any strength-training - very good for you!!!

You sound very motivated.  GOOD FOR YOU!  A very healthy rule of thumb for long-term weight loss (and keeping it off) is 1-2 pounds per week, on average.  Sometimes, I've lost no weight for weeks at a time and suddenly had a 4lb weight-loss in 1 week.  That is just how my body has held onto or let go of weight.  The thing about sudden or drastic weight loss is that it is almost certainly just water weight.

You might be building muscle, which is a good thing!  Did you happen to take measurements at the beginning?  If not, why not do this now.  Just a good benchmark to re-visit every month or so (say, the 1st of every month, or maybe the 15th if you do it today).  Maybe measure your bust, upper arm, waist, thigh, and calf - or whatever.  It sooo helped me and encouraged me when I had those times when I wasn't losing pounds.  I always said I didn't care what I weighed as long as I looked like a size ___ (fill in whatever).

I hope this helps.  Keep reading and posting.  There are great encouragers on here!
