Help, has anyone....

Has any had endoscopic sinus surgery before? Is it worth it for a chronic sinus infection? If any of you has had this procedure I would greatly appreciate the pros and cons of the experience. thanks

thanks for the rundown, did you take a full 4-6 weeks dose of maximum AB prior to the CT scan? The reason I am asking is that I was informed and also read this has to be done in order to actually determine if you have to have surgery.

I'm really sorry that you have to have it done but I know it does work for the majority of people. They do say that if you have allergies it's a cause of chronic sinusitis.

Another question, did you get the allergy testing on your first visit to the allergist? because if so I will stop the truckloads of antihistamines I'm taking a few days prior to my visit.

I feel a little better but the symptoms are still the same, I went out last night and had to excuse myself at 9 pm to go home, and by that time my eyes were bright red and I was feeling horrid. I am going to push for allergy shots if I am allergic to things that works for so I can end up not taking medication. I have to 86 my walk at a lake sanctuary I go to because I am so over the top with symptoms when I go there. :(

I'll try and think of more insomnia tips for you. In regard to worse diseases.....I've read some pretty funny sort of black humor things online, one guy said he lost a leg got run over by a truck, had severe bone infections and the sinus infection ranked right up there. Another lady said the sinusitis is worse than her chemo and I can attest, I had a year of interferon and this infection was AS BAD and that was hideous beyond words!

My CT scan showed a opacified (completely gray and filled with something) maxillary sinus. And the allergy test was quite painless and simple actually. Its where they poke your pack with needles and after about 4 minutes if its a mosquito bit like reaction from the ***** your allergic.

I am taking cetirizine (generic form of Zyrtec). Needless to say, I dont like taking it but I guess i need it. Wow, and yeah, Ive been having a hard time sleeping. It must be that or the post nasal drip/breathing, keeping me awake at night.

they said i should take delsym and some ibuprofen. It really hasnt helped so i went off of it.

O, thanks for the tips Ill be sure to do that. Yeah i never ever drank caffeinated stuff.

Yeah, if you have any other tips for insomnia (a natural way) i would like to hear. Thank you for your prayer I really hope my surgery will improve my symptoms. Yeah, people dont really realize how diffucult this truly is until they experience it. Sure, there are a lot worse diseases out there, but this is pretty bad haha. I havent gotten a lot of sympathy either especially from my work ha I hope i dont get fired.

In all, my experience has lasted for 3 months now. It started off as a hard time breathing (coincidentally during the really bad allergy season may). So I go to the DR and he says I have asthma/allergies. So I start taking meds for that and it offered a little relief. So weeks go by and it gets worse and my DR finally orders a CT scan of my sinus'. IT revealed a blocked sinus. So i started treating it for a while and it seemed to being doing better. Yet, I was still short of breath and whatnot, so i visit an allergist/asthma specialist. From there i found that i was allergic to a lot of things. Put on meds for that then another Ct of sinus' showed no improvement and now im getting surgery next week.

Oh I forgot to say I hope that you have someone to help you when you have the surgery. It's also really hard that people don't seem to get the misery isn't it? I have not had really much sympathy at all.

You probably said but I don't remember, did you get a CT scan and what did it show? And in regard to your allergies what kind of test was it a blood test? did they offer you allergy shots?

what kind of allergy medication are you taking? I won't take decongestants because I don't like the weird way they make me feel AND they cause insomnia it's not a good trade off for me.

did they say it's ok for you to take benadryl? and what about pain medication? I have been taking both benadryl and tylenol at night and I get up in the middle of the night and take it so that I can continue sleeping.(because my pain and breathing issues are keeping me awake)

Here are some other things that I do, make sure that you have clean sheets and get yourself a gel pillow, they are really cheap and you can buy a new one every 2 months or so to keep dust mites down (13$ at WM). Keep your house cool at night to sleep, I can't deal with anything about 72 degrees. Don't use caffeine, sleep at the same time every night.

I have other tips for insomnia but don't want to be a know it all, let me know if you want any other tips. I am praying for your surgery, and I really would like to know more details about what has led up to it? particularly your CT scan and allergies????

Yeah thanks for the update Im glad to hear you dont actually have to get the surgery. Its good hes conservative, my doctor is sort of but he thinks i need it because it didnt go away after a month with treatment.

Funny thing is, is that I have severe allergies also. I think this is partially what lead to my demise!! Its horrible. Upon getting sick, my DR also sent me to an allergist. DId an allergy test to find out i was allergic to a lot airborne so it was leading to my sinus infection. Unfortunately i found that out too late and the damage was already done to my sinus'!

Thanks for checking up, I will definatly keep you posted as I wont have anything to do after the surgery besides recover. Hopefully it works.

Yeah I think you will feel better after getting on meds for allergies. Its helped a little bit for me.

Yeah, I had severe facial pain and headaches. It was pretty intense. HAve a hard time sleeping because of it so that leads to even MORE fatigue. Its a total utter nightmare ha.

By the way, my ENT said it does have some sort of element where he cuts some of the turbinate tissue. So would this be a problem? Or does it have to be the whole turbinate getting cut up leading to ENS? thanks and good luck

Oh I came back to say, I still feel SICK and my face and cheekbones are literally on fire. I really don't know what to think except that I did talk to him about how freaked out I was that I was going to end up sicker again and he gave me the nice little placating lecture about not to be paranoid about becoming sick - we all will get sick - I'll get sick etc. I wanted to say, yeah but you are not sick right now with your face on fire but I do have to say, maybe it is just residual pain from the infection and my problem IS now allergies and I have to see the allergist, in THREE weeks, oiy viey!
