Lets define & differentiate IBS & ENDO?

I have Endo IBS-c which means that my lower organs are covered in lesions, stuck to one another and my bowel is also a pain in the *** (no pun intended) giving out a gas thats excruciating!!

So where does one illness stop and the other start? ok my lower back pain is made up of pulsing, dull ache, sharp pain (talk about indescisive) my groin feels the same, bar the pulsing, with the added touch of a monkey inside using my organs as a jungle gym!! then theres the gas!? mmmm, none endo related...but everpresent, that feeling of wanting to blow out a big one! (sorry) and there is audio for the pleasure of the blind who cannot see my wretched body hurled over in agony. Lets not forget the moment when you are passing away a meal of yesterday only to be greeted by an electric bolt up your backside, not pleasant!

So, `Endo only` ladies...You get the back/joint aches, the clots, the monkey, agony....but no gas, no need to push something out...right?

The reason for this post, is besides needing to vent, I am deeply concerned about the amount of endo sufferers and IBS sufferers I am encountering on a daily basis that are unaware of whats really going on inside! a lot of women with Endo are being diagnosed as IBS and vice versa, when truth be told both illnesess walk hand in brutal hand 70% of the time!

And staying on a miserable note what other ailments do you have apart from Endo, Ibs??

I have had Endo IBS-C for 17yrs and along this journey I have found that my body has changed drastically. I use to be a dancer and horse rider, had to give these up in my early 20`s due to muscle, joint back problems. Hair loss and paper thin nails are normal. Raynauds syndrome and other circulation problems have been linked to my Endo.
Breathing problems and creaky joints? also my muscles havent grown properly apparently! there narrow not round!? mmm that was an odd diagnosis haha. Wonder what I`d look like If I was a bodybuilder??

Anyway, those solely diagnosed with Endo or Ibs...what do you think?

So for you endo only ladies

Gem 1340 With as advanced as your endo is I hope that your doctor is or is sending you to an endo specialist for your surgery. A general ob/gyn does not know enough. To find one in your area you can contact the endo association:
http://www.endometriosisassn.org/

Asthma
Celiac Disease
IC

Hi there

How was your endometriosis diagnosed ?? was it an exploratory laparoscopy?/

I am due to have one soon but still waitung for the exact date to come through.

Where do you have to go for the surgery is it at an endometriosis clinic a long way from home??

I was diagnosed for 10years of having IBS.  Within this past year I was diagnosed with severe Endo.  It is also all over my bowels, bladder, intestines and diaphragm.  I knew it had to been something more than IBS.  I soooo understand the stabbing pains that come and go.  And instead of a monkey, I've been calling it Freddie Kruger inside of me, ripping me.  Even the gas pains will drop me to my knees in pain.  Most mornings I cannot get out of the bathroom and when I do, I run to work only to stay in the bathroom for hours at work.  I never know when it will hit me.  I was taking 800 ml of Ibuprofen but I was popping them like candy and the Dr stop prescribing them to me.  Instead they changed it other pain meds that doesn't seem to help as much.

I am so mad I was missed diagnosed because I feel like I missed out on most of my life.  I was an athlete. I was always the life of the party.  Now I don't want to get off the couch.  I can't even have children and I am 38yrs old now.  Most of my life has been in pain.

I am having surgery Nov 9th.  I am hoping I will feel so much better.

thanks everyone for letting me vent! :)

This may seem a tad morbid but Imagine an Ant farm where one of the Ants abuses every Ant in its path and leaves them forever disabled, but all Ants looked the same so you couldnt determine which Ant was the evil doer? Well this is Endometriosis!!

If only Endo was as simple as a square shaped, bright blue, vibrating clot that intended on destruction? how easy for it to be found and irradicated but Endo is far more than doctors say! For a start the lesions! they just so happen to be so hard to find that in 100 Laps only approx 70% of them are found (on a good day) then theres the "new" `Hormonal` damage!!? I say New as after 15 years of being told "Endo cant seriously effect hormones" to my disagreement, we now know it does, heavily! It also destroys major Hormonal growth which is important to women such as Calcium (Athauritis anyone?) Oestrogen (like Calcium but effects hair and nails and muscles) I could go on...and on...:0/

Thank u for commenting to my question.  Yes I have been diagnosed with ins along with other stomach problems.  I have many other health conditions as well.  I have lots of pain in my left side just like I always have in the past with ends.  My back guards so bad which they have diagnosed me with arthritis in my back now along with degenerative disc disease and bulging disc in my back and neck.  I hurt also in my vain and I feel like im trying to start my period again. Which I had a hysterectomy in my 20s and I will b 40 on my next bday.  I have known I have had ends since I was 15 and had humorous surgeries for it.  I have hurt so much and it started when I first got my period in 6th grade.  I have had major surgeries and some minor surgeries.  I was fortunate to have my two girls. I am really so tired of going through this pain.  I have recently read a study that ends has been found in the back so that is y I wonder if it can b linked to arthritis and I also wonder if it can b linked to colon problems as well.  I have been having alot of polyps to show up in my colon.  I have to have colonoscopies every two yrs bc of the polyps.  They get worse every time I have the colonocopies done.  Im due one in may but they called me about my labs and im losing blood and this has never happened before.  I am under going test right now.  Do u think that could b possibly connected?   Thanks.  Gigi.

Hi there

lol great pic in that case lol

Yes my Mum did also suffer with very heavy painful periods but she had a hysterectomy and her ovaries removed also she had gallstones and kidney stones and I remember thinking when I was younger "oh god thats me a few years down the line"

I however had an ablation for my heavy periods four years ago and so far so good on that front.

I think its awful you have to take tablets at  3.30am surely thats not fair.!!!

The tablets I am taking are 12hour slow release ones that I take at 8am and 8pm which is great as it means I can sleep all night!!!

They are slow release tramadol 200mg  and slow release diclofenac 75mg (anti-inflamatory)

I also have to take sachets to stop the constipation side effects and tablets to protect my stomach due to the anti inflamatory meds.

I do get bloating especially eating wheat but don't think I have it as bad as you if I do have ibs.

I do get the shooting pains up my bum though  sometimes lol

and I do get blue nails  too

Hi there!

It is indeed me in my photo! although I have to admit...I`m not a nun :0/ but I do swear If I`d never bumped into my husband one drunken evening I may of very nearly became one! honest!

It could be that you and your mother have a Endo Ibs, did she ever have painful or irregurlar periods?

I am on timed painkillers codiene and paracetamol which I take 8pm, 1am and 3.30am! its a pain!

The catch 22 is that the codiene and anything containing it (ibuprofen etc) makes the IBS worse and yet its the only thing that helps with the pain!! :0/

Hi there!!
lol I take it thats not really you on the photo???

I haven't been diagnosed with anything yet but suspect I am about to be diagnosed with endometriosis at the very least . (after my laparoscopy as nothing has showed up on my scan apart from my ovary being wrapped around my uterus)

My mum has just recently been diagnosed with ibs so it wouldn't surprise me in the  least if I have that too (will have to look it up)

Aren't they doing anything to help you at all????
