IUD (Mirena) to help with Endo...Anyone have this?

Just wondering if anyone has the IUD to help treat Endo...how does it compare to other treatments? It seems like the better choice than Depo, Vissaine and Luperon. I'm only 26, no children yet, and the IUD seems to have the less symptoms/effects than the three mentioned above. Would appreciate any thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

Is he sending you to Dr. Leyland in Hamilton?

It took 3 months before the depression set in but then again it was November and the weather was cold and dreary

validation helps when it comes to mourning. When you get this disease you have to stay on top of it and do what you can to combat it. Some times there are dark days some days there are good it all depends in your own attitude :)

Thanks for the response. Had my Lap on Wednesday this week, recovering now. Stage 3-4 Endo confirmed and likely going to get a specialist referral (Dr. Lie as a friend has him and says good things).

Visanne seems to be working for now but haven't been on it for long. No signs of depression for me so far. ZERO sex drive though, which could cause isssues and headaches are pretty intense. Prior to lap, it stopped the bleeding and relieved symptoms. Hoping now that many lesions have been cleaned up on bladder and bowels, that it relieves some pain there.

It all kinda makes sense now and kinda expected to hear that I have it, but still disappointing on what it means for the future.

Visanne was horrible for me and sent me into a suicidal state. I wouldn't take any of it until you have a 100% diagnoses and its not that far away. Trust me I have been a guinea pig since 2007 until I found out that the only thing hrts are good for is pain and sometimes that doesn't even help. These meds are toxic and will mess with you mentally and will put you into a menopausal state.

I am not a doctor just someone who suffered undiagnosed for 17yrs and have been a guinea pig for 6 yrs.

Straight up do not go on anything until lap confirms and even then it most likely will not help just make matters worse.

Make sure your surgeon specializes in this disease because if they leave any behind the surgery would have been for nothing . I can't emphasize this enough

Thanks Ladies for the input.

Just had a bout in the hospital with some serious abdominal pain that wouldn't go away with Advil. Also, I have tried the BCP method, was on Apri (generic brand of TriCyclen) and bled through non-stop.

I have a Lap booked May 28th, where they will hopefully determine 100% that it is Endo, but it is highly suspected. Saw my doc after my bout in Emerg yesterday and we are giving Visanne a shot until my surgery to see if it provides any relief from the bleeding and symptoms. I don't like the idea of the side effects, but figure I've had horrible periods all my life (especially this past year) so it can only get better I hope. The IUD has it's concerns for sure with possible infection, but I figured it has the least symptoms compared to the others as I prefer not to be sent into "early menopause".

I suppose I will have to be a ginuea pig for a bit until I find out what works for me.

I had the mirena put in last sept, it started off good but i have been having problems with it and hasn't decreased my pain in any sense my doc now thinks my body is rejecting, yes i've heard great success stories from it and that's why i tried it as everything else has failed. I also heard the injection as same sorta effect and what i might try after this, just be careful you don't get any bacteria in the mirena as it's happened to me recently and i can't get rid of an IUD, but do try other hormonal methods such as danazol , dufaston along with maybe a contraceptive pill first or seek other options first

Hello :) Sorry it has taken me so long to answer I haven't been well.

They say the Mirena is the best for deep infiltrating Endometriosis.

Have you had surgery to confirm you have Endo or was it something they assume you have?

The fact is none of these HRT's stop the growth of Endometriosis. It doesn't even suppress it which I recently became aware of which shocked me completely because that is why I though we too these things.

However that is not the case. The only way to remove is surgery, the HRT's only help regulate and help with pain.

My opinion is for you not to subject yourself to those meds like Lupron, Depo, Visanne or the IUD. I would try if anything to take a low dose BCP (I use marvelon) and take it everyday with no breaks. See if that helps with the pain. I am telling you those treatments are useless and I don;t understand why they are pushed because there are so many bad side effects and some of them permanent for some.

The doctors will push and if you don't listen they get mad because they think they know better than you but the funny thing is, not a lot of surgeons have a clue when it comes to these HRT's. Please do your research before taking any of them. That is just my opinion.

I have been a guinea pig to the medical field for over 23 yrs and I have problems because of it.
