My wife passed away in early 2018 after a long battle with cancer. For about 5 years before her passing, my ED had continued to get worse and no longer responded to any of the medications. After she passed away, I began dating again, and although my new spouse and I had found great satisfaction in a physical relationship that stopped short of penetration, we began to search for answers to my ED. I went straight to Mayo in Jacksonville, Florida for an appointment to see a specialist. My first visit, they injected me with a drug directly into the penis that in 99.999% of cases, results in an erection. It had no impact. They then used a sonogram device to track bloodflow in my penis and found that the blood had found a short cut back into my body, and would not go into the cavaties that create an erection. No drug was going to help me.
They explained that I was a candidate for an implant, and they were going to use AMS 700 made by Boston Scientific. Easy to google and learn more. I was given another appointment to have the procedure in only 3 days, so I stayed at Jacksonville a few more days in order to have this done. The procedure took a couple hours, and I stayed only overnight as they needed to remove the catheter draining my bladder the following morning. Then I was sent home. It took a week or so before I began to feel comfortable with the device. The incision was at the base of my penis, on the underside, about 1" or so, and it healed quickly.
I was not able to use the device for a few weeks, but once the incision was healed I was supposed to inflate it several times a week, but not to have intercourse for at least a month (and after a follow up with the doctor). So I had to go back to Mayo a month later. They had me wait an additional month before using it for intercourse. The biggest discomfort I had was something hard in my scrotum, it was like sitting on a walnut. This was a year and a half ago, and I've become accustomed to the lump.
The device works great. It does require a few moments to inflate, so I'll often inflate the device while showering before going to bed, or when my wife goes into the bathroom to brush her teeth. This way, it can be more spontaneous. And if not, it takes just a second to relieve the pressure.
Honestly, after a year of using this, I find that I look pretty well hung, as over time the device doesn't completely retract to its original size. It stretches a little more with every use, and simply deflates, but doesn't retract. I would say that my wife and I have intercourse several times a week, and the cool thing is that it doesn't deflate until I'm ready. She gets multiple orgasms before we deflate it. This has been the best sex of my life, because I also suffered from premature ejaculation and I doubt I had given my previous wife more than a couple orgasms in 43 years of marriage.
AND, because it was a physiological problem, it was paid by my insurance. However, I would gladly pay to have this done, I'm guessing about $40K, but a far better investment than a new car.
Tell us about the procedure, recovery and life afterwards. That would be interesting to hear.
